Apple Lossless File Size

I currently have 350gbs worth of music in my itunes library, all encoded with aac at 192kbs. If I converted my whole library to lossless what is the estimated amount of space the new "lossless" files take up? Obviously, I would re-import from the cds but before I do this question need clarification. Thanks for your help

Apple Lossless files will be about half the size of the uncompressed music from the CDs, or roughly 330-350MB for each CD on average.

That's going to depend on the bitrate you choose to encode, not just the format. I import in AAC@256, I just took a look at one of the CD's I imported last night, the CD is 714mb, the AAC@256 files total up as 143mb. If you use the default import option of AAC@128, I believe that you can figure on 1 minute recording= approx. 1mb.

I've got about 3000 songs in lossless format, so have some precise data.

You'll save, on average, about 45% compared to uncompressed. The average bitrate for my whole collection of lossless songs is 629kbps, or roughly 3.3 times larger than 192kbps. So if you converted your whole collection, you'd need about 1.2TB to hold it all.

What percentage is aac compared to the original cd?
