Couple of months ago I bought a Krusell case that has a space for a few credit cards and money. I started noticing that all the cards I had with the phone they started to get demagnetized and stopped working. So much for killing two birds with one stone.:)
I don't know if it's true or not.....but I have always heard that leather wallets can demagnetize a credit card. In my leather wallets, I have always made sure to have a business card or the like behind my credit card to keep my magnetic strip away from the leather. I know some banks issue a sleeve with their credit cards. You might check with your bank to see if they have a credit card sleeve.
I have a thin leather wallet and a Griffin Elan slip-in leather case with no magnet. I have kept both directly next to each other in my pocket for month. I have had no problems with my cards.
Close - what I remember reading is that eel-skin wallets can cause problems with magnetic strips on credit-cards. I believe the "Straight Dope" message board website has an article on this, of which I am entirely too lazy to retrieve.
I work in the hotel business...we always tell people not to put their room keys (plastic card keys with the magnetic strip) near their cell phones because the phone will demagnetize the strip. When someone's key isn't working, 9 times out of 10 they had it in the same pocket with their phone...
