I have the same problem! I have had my 30GB ipod for 18 months and had no problems before. I have installed my ipod on my computer at home that has windows xp on but as i am now at uni, I tried to install the ipod drver on my laptop that has vista on and it wont install it. It recognises the ipod but wont bring it up on itunes or install the driver! I hav a 32 bit operating system and i dont know what else to try as i have tried using the disk, but no luck.

The way I understand it you should be able to connect your iPod classic to any XP or Vista machine without a problem. Mine connected without issue to Vista (haven't needed to hook up to XP yet).

I do know that latest iTunes doesn't work with Windows 2000.

I do know there have been issues with 64-bit Vista (I have 32 bit and have on idea what a bit is or what it does!).

I've been able to connect my son's older iPod video 30g to XP (where he uses it all the time) and to my laptop with Vista. No issues in either case.

I have also been able to connect wife's new refurbished iPod nano (second generation) to Vista without issue.

I manually manage music so connecting and disconnecting iPod properly is important.

I do think that most issues have to do with computer and not iTunes or iPod. MOST issues that is....
