"Disc copy protection could not be verified."

i get this error when i am playing commercially bought DVDs! it aint happening on all of em, really random ones.

The disc will mount fine and will give me the option to play from start or most recent point (as usual) but then if i click either option i get:

"Disc copy protection could not be verified. The disc can not be played. (-70025)"

anyone encountered this before?

Dual 1.8 G5, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Hi patchlunch-

Basically this is telling you that your system thinks it is trying to play an illegal copy of a movie and is refusing to do so.

Since it is not happening with all of your disks, you may want to consider taking ones that give you this error back to the seller for a refund.

Try playing the disc with VLC

yeah it works on VLC.

but im just puzzled why the DVD player just decided to start rejecting certain discs which i have been able to play on the same player many times before without any problems...

seems abit odd that it suddenly decides its a dodgy disc?

It could be a bad file in ~/Library/Application Support/DVD Player/Settings
You could try deleting that folder.

i'm cautious about deleting it coz it's full of plist files. surely they are vital to how the dvd player operates? i am probably totally wrong, i don't know much about the basic apple aps, i'm just a humble logic geek.

so basically there's no way of knowing how the dvd player will run if you trash that settings file?

The files contain information (such as last playing position) for each DVD you have played. They will be recreated when you play the DVD again. You could temporarily move the folder somewhere else (such as you desktop).

moved it to the desktop but it still came up with the same error.

But i get no answer from Apple. They replaced my Superdrive. Then, i reinstalled MacOs, and i still can't play most of my dvds.
