A3 prints coming out on A4

When I send a document to print and it's A3 sized, it comes out on A4 cropped off. If I send it to print directly to printer it comes out on A3 as it should. The way to print on A3 is to tell the client to take the paper from the Cassette 1 tray instead of automatic.

Its an Epson Aculaser 8600, MP tray is A4 and Cassette 1 is A3. The printer is set up on the server connecting to the printer via AppleTalk. The server broadcasts this printer queue via AppleTalk. Both server and clients have the same printer drivers. The system worked fine in 10.3.9. The client would send a job and the printer automatically picked the right tray to fetch the paper from. Now it seems the paper size information is lost somewhere in the transmission and the printer just chooses the first paper tray available, whatever the size.

Is anyone else having the same problem? I think my next port of call is to use Generic Printer Drivers but I would loose some printing options if I chose this.

What does anyone else think?

I don’t know if my boggle is similar or not but this is a problem I’ve just experienced. Printing directly to the printer either from a workstation or from the server the printer selects the correct size paper, as I would expect. But... As soon as I set up a queue and send a job to the printer, it will print... but no matter what paper size... no matter what tray... it always prints from the multi purpose tray. Same job printed directly no problem.... Just FYI, Xerox suggested just using the MPT (kind of redundant having two other paper trays then) and its not our problem. Apple premium support gave up as they don’t have a Phaser 5500N to play around with.

The printers going back, I don’t need headaches like this!

Yeah... I didnt matter what tray I directed the job to come out (via the server) it would always come out of the MPT. Take the server out of the equation and everything worked beautifully.

I did get an offer from my Xerox rep (I guess he saw all of those $$$$ floating away) to send a "tech" to come and look at the problem. But thats no good to me, Ifn I have a problem I need it fixed...

Hmm. I might be wrong here, but perhaps this is related:

we also have Phaser 5500 (and the same happens with Phaser 7400) and we experience the following problem:
when selecting A3 paper I knoticed that the paper format it showed was slightly wrong: 29,7cm x 42,02 cm instead of 29,7x42 cm. The printer thus doesn't recognize this page as an A3 and asks to use a different paper. We then have to manually tell it to use the A3 paper from tray2.
Perhaps there is a setting that forces it to print on tray 1 for you (where the A4 paper is) and thus resulting in everything printing on A4 paper?
