QuickTime requires Macromedia Flash version 5 or before?

Attempt at exporting a quicktime movie from a simple timeline animation in flash produces this result:

---------------------------
Flash 8
---------------------------
The installed version of QuickTime does not support this type of Macromedia Flash movie.
QuickTime requires Macromedia Flash version 5 or before.

Please select "Version: Flash Player 5" in the Flash tab of the Publish Settings dialog.
---------------------------

Anyone see anything odd about this screen cap? (Same thing if I specifically select version 5):

Is QT Pro, really professional? Are there any professionals developing the software? Why can't this simple operation be performed?

Thanks.

Welcome to the discussions, J W Wright.

There are newer versions of Flash that weren't licensed to Apple. As such, QuickTime can only support what Macromedia at the time, and now Adobe allows. Additionally, if your version of QuickTime is 7.3.1, QuickTime supports NO version of Adobe's Flash (though I don't know if that's the error message you'd get).

Has any one found a way around this issue yet? I have spent the last 3 days on the phone and with no answers. I could uninstall QT and Re Install an older version, but no one has said that works! I could purchase QT Pro, but I am not feeling confident that it will work either. Anyway, I would really like to know if anyone has a fix.
Thanks

I'd be willing to bet they just copy that same information every time they update the version number. So, no, the only downgrade that will help is QuickTime.

Just checked their other pages...

http://www.pcauthority.com.au/download/apple-quicktime-731.aspx

And they do all have the same info. They just need to be alerted that they've got bad info on their site 🙂

Greetings!

I cannot but confirm the info in your posts guys, same happening here, no success in choosing older versions in the publish settings in Flash. CS3 suppose to export to MOV in a more QuickTime friendly way, but I haven't got CS3 to try it.

However I've been taking the route to MOV via AVI-files. Works a treat and can be recommended (on a Windows system). The only work-around I've found so far. You need QT Pro in order to save the AVI to a MOV file though.

Cheers,
