I got mine to work!!! 🙂
Just put it in the freezer for like 3 min. Then Reset it. Here is how to do that. Switch the hold switch to hold then back then hold then back then immediately after that, hold down the menu and center button for 15 sec. or untill apple symbol comes on. Then don't get worried if it stays there for a while it will go back. All my songs were there but i had customized my main menu and it had gone back to normal but that was no problem cause I got my ipod to work. PS You may have to try the reset thing a couple of times till it works. Good Luck. 🙂

I joined this forum just to say thank you. My 3rd gen Nano wouldn't power up out of the blue, so I tried everything to get it up and running again. Then I saw this post and laughed out loud thinking it to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard....but being at the end of my rope I tried it and BAM it worked. I'm still laughing, but grateful. Thanks again.

Like the poster above I also joined just to say thank you...had exactly the same problem and your solution worked like a dream!
I gotta know something though....what the heck made you think of putting your ipod into the freezer?! Did you try this fix without the 'freezer' step?
Not that it matters...my 'dead' nano is alive again thanks to you and I'm very grateful.

Cheers!

This did not work for me it seems like it would break the ipod because of all the condensation (when I took it out of the freezer there was fog on the front and back). Does anyone have any other ideas?

P.S.-I let my nano completely drain already even before I saw this because it said "connected, eject before disconnecting"(now it won't turn on again even when plugged into USB on my xbox and my computer.

I got the freezer idea from another fourm, I tried it and it worked.
Unfortunately, I took my ipod to school and it got stolen. But on the bright side, I figured out who stole it then confronted them and there bringing it back tomorrow.

P.S.- I think that if you leave it in the frezzer for more than 10 min. it will hurt it. But I dont know. I left mine in for 5 min.
P.P.S- Thanks for joining because of me!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Hello Everyone,

Although this resolution seems ingenious I must let you know that exposing your iPod to freezing temperatures can cause serious harm. Please see the following excerpt from the iPod Safety Guide available at Apple.com.

Keeping iPod within acceptable temperatures

Operate iPod in a place where the temperature is always between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). iPod play time might temporarily shorten in low-temperature conditions.

Store iPod in a place where the temperature is always between -20º and 45º C (-4º to 113º F). Don’t leave iPod in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range.

When you’re using iPod or charging the battery, it is normal for iPod to get warm. The exterior of iPod functions as a cooling surface that transfers heat from inside the unit to the cooler air outside.

Have a great day!
