iMovie '08 stops importing when screensaver runs on 2 Cinema HD Displays
I have problems importing Mini DV tapes into iMovie 08 while using two 23 inch Cinema HD Displays. If I Auto import video from a MiniDV tape and the import completes while the screensaver is running on both screens, iMovie will not import further video from any MiniDV tapes. If I reboot my Mac Pro, it will import fine.
I tested this by trying to import the same MiniDV tape and activating the screensaver after importing starts. I let the screensaver run until I am sure importing is complete i.e. thumbnails generated. When I wake the computer, iMovie says "... minutes of video were imported and the tape rewound." I click OK and try to import the same tape again. iMovie will rewind the tape, the blue screen says "Rewinding..." but then after rewinding, the screen shows "Stopped" and importing stops. I switched to Manual Import mode but when I click import, the same thing happens. If I reboot my Mac Pro, iMovie will import the same tape without problems either in Auto or Manual mode.
I have two Apple 23 inch Cinema HD Displays connected to a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT video card using two Apple DVI to ADC Display Adapters. Screen Saver is set to activate after 9 minutes. Screen Saver Show with Clock is set to Off.
I've tried different things: different Screen Saver, Put Hard Disks to Sleep On or Off. import movie to different SATA300 hard drives: Raid 0 of 2 Seagates or WD 250 GB Boot HD, set Sleep Display after 10 minutes or Never, connected camcorder by Firewire 400 port in back or in front, External HD connected or disconnected via NewerTech SATA Extender. None of these made a difference. Finally found if I *disconnected one HD Cinema display*, the problem went away.
I have not noticed any perceivable difference in temperatures using Temperature Monitor 4.3 ( http://www.bresink.de/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html) but I can't read temperatures when the screen saver is running.
I don't know if this is kosher, but I might post the same question in the Apple Displays and iMovie forums. I have searched both for my problem and haven't found any similar.
