Can I disable headphone jack auto-pause feature?

I have (the apparently not uncommon) problem that if I try to use non-apple headphones with my iPod, it constantly pauses, thinking that the jack is disconnected. This happens whichever other headphones I use, clearly the Apple 3.5 mm jack is slightly different to other manufacturers.

Is there any way of disabling the auto-pause feature. If not, will Apple PLEASE, introduce this feature, as this feature is ruining my enjoyment of an otherwise great device and will force me to change manufacturers next time if it remains unresolved.

No, there is no way to disable this feature. You might want to try different headphones. I haven't used the Apple supplied headphones since, well, ever, and I don't have a problem. I use Etymotic ER6i's with no problem. Also, if you're using a case, you may want to check that the case isn't preventing the headset from seating in the jack properly.

Many thanks, I've tried several types of headphones, all suffer from the same problem, but I know others who have no such problem. Maybe it varies from iPod to iPod....very annoying! Why don't apple allow disabling of the feature and make everyones life easier?!
