I plug it into my new computer which has the latest itunes and all and nothing happens. It doesn't show up in my device manager, itunes or anything. It won't even charge. I really need some help immediately.
I had this same problem. You need to authorize your computer. There are tabs at the top of your itunes library. Find the one that allows you to authorize computer (sorry can't remember exactly which tab). Once you authorize the computer it should allow you to sync. I hope this helps.
I am having the same issue as well. My first generation nano will not show up when plugged into the USB. Also when I try to charge it with with the wall charger with the USB cord it doesn't do anything either. However when my wife uses her 2nd gen ipod nano everything works fine.
You may need to reset it. So first thing to try is... Put the hold switch to the OFF/White position. Now toggle it ON/orange then back off again. Then press and hold both the MENU and center buttons on the iPod and hold them for a good 15 seconds or so. Your iPod should reboot starting with the Apple Logo screen. If it doesn't work the first time, give it a second or third go. Sometimes it takes a few/several tries. See this thread as an example of what I mean by needing to try it many times... http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5065208 http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/ Patrick
I seem to have the same problem. My iPod is new, so it has NO battery. When I plug it into my computer, nothing happens. And I mean NOTHING.
The iPod doesn't turn on, the computer doesn't recognize that anything is plugged in; iTunes is the same. I can't turn my iPod on, as it has NO charge and the computer isn't charging it up.
What can I do (aside from resetting it, as it has never been turned on (I think), and I've tried resetting it about 7 times - it hasn't worked) There is no power, nothing.
