I have a sitecom WL-025 router. My ipod touch recognises the router and says its connected to it, but on trying to access youtube or safari an error message of no server found comes up.
When checking the wifi settings on the ipod my ip address begins with 169...which i seem to understand is a DNS issue? I've tried entering all values in manually under the static tab but this doesn't work either.
Any ideas??
There have been others on this forum who seem to use this router so that can't be the problem..Any other suggestions would be deeply appreciated. The ipod touch recognises the router and there is a strong signal but it just keeps saying there is no server detectable..HELP
More info needed.
Do you use encryption? Kind(wep,wpa,wpa2, etc.)?
What trouble shooting have you done(turned off encryption, reset router, reset iPod, manually entered the dns info, etc.)?
Hi , I'm using WEP 128 bit encryption with the router. I have reset the ipod, as well as modem and router, i've added the DNS info etc manually under the static tab of the ipod touch, and still nothing!!! I've even added the MAC address of the ipod to the router, nothing!..
I'm not to sure as to what to leave the HTTP settings on the ipod as when entering DNS info manually under the static tab.
This is getting really frustrating now...
Welcome to the world of networking. I too have had many issues with my WiFi in my house as well.
Can you talk to the Internet with any other computer through your WL-025 router wirelessly? When your IPT connected to your network, did you have to enter a password for your WEP encryption.
In my network, I had to have all my computers wired or wirelessly had to have the DNS Servers for my ISP in my TCP/IP settings. You may need to do that on the IPT as well.
I can access the wireless network with other equipment such as my laptop. Only seem to have a problem with the ipod touch. I think it must be a DNS issue because the ip address the i get begins with 169..I'm not sure how to resolve this though..
Further suggestions would be much appreciated
No my ip address for my router begins with 192..., but when i try to connect the ipod touch to the wifi network the IP address that gets sent to the ipod touch begins with 169..From reading on this forum i understand this to be a DNS issue but i don't know how to resolve it..HELP
I do not have my ipod handy, but you need to put in the DNS server addresses into your ipod. You also need to have the IP addresses match the 1st 3 digits.
I have run out of ideas, as I am not a network expert. You never did answer the question of the network requesting a password from your IPT. Without a password, it will not connect.
I purchased 4 iPod Touch units. 3 of them are 8 gigs and the other one is a 16 gig. They are all at my home (same location). The 3 eight gigs wifi picked up all of my wireless anywhere in my home and connected immediately. The 16 gig picks up the wireless networks signal, but will not connect (no singal showing in the top left corner either).
I thought that i had a bad unit and took it back to replace it with another 16 gig unit. The new 16 gig unit does the same as the old 16 gig unit (will not connect). I am getting ready to trade the 16 gig unit for an 8 gig to see if it will work.
Is it possible that this is just an issue with the 16 gig units? I will keep you guys posted when i return with the 8 gig and test it.
I just got my iPod back from my wife. I totally reconfigured my network at home so I was curious if the IPT would connect up with no issues. I turned on the WiFi, selected the network in my house. Entered the password and I was connected. No DNS addresses to enter!
Hi, I thought I would post this here, since it has to do with a router from the same manufacturer. I had issues connecting to a new sitecom WL-173 router with my iphone, and I changed a number of settings... encryption, dtim, beacon rate. At one point I thought it was the turbo mode. Eventually setting the encryption to wpa2 with aes was the answer(with all the rest of the settings default)
Before I figured it out there was some strange behavior, it seemed like the iphone would see the router and connect but then couldn't get an address via dhcp. I tried using a static ip but this didn't seem to help. Weirdly, if I connected to the router with my macbook first, and then connected with the iphone, for some reason the iphone connection started working-no matter what the settings. But in the morning, I don't use my macbook immediately, and it's nice to check what the weather is before you get out of bed.
So my process was I would change router settings with the macbook, put it to sleep, turn the wireless off on my iphone, wait 20 seconds, turn the iphone wireless back on to see if it would work. Somehow the macbook must be able to negotiate with the sitecom wl-173, but the iphone isn't able to do the same.
