Dropped the iphone in water...

And it won't turn on. I was wondering if just replacing the battery would make it work again or should I go into the apple store for help? And if I go into the apple store, do they fix it even though it's been in water, or do they ship it some place to be fixed? Lastly, how much might it cost because I see those iphone battery replace things, and they look like they might work.

I can confirm the $250 cost for a refurbished replacement. Mine recently took a spin through the wash cycle (along with my jeans) and I figured I was out $399. Fortunately I talked with an Apple genius first, and he informed me of that option.

The replacement pretty much indistinguishable from the one it replaced.

Oh, and it was an in-store swap. I gave them the old iPhone, $250 plus tax, and they gave me the refurbished iPhone and even activated it for me before I left the store.

My iPhone slipped out of the pocket of my rainsuit, landing in a toilet bowl (prior to any activity on my part). I quickly plucked it out, dried and sanitized everything. I'm guessing it was totally submerged for 3 or 4 seconds. It must have bumped the Sleep/Wake button when it went in, because when I pulled it out and looked at the screen it came up with the message "This accessory is not completely compatible with iPhone . . ." The only problem it had was that the Home button would not function. I placed it on the dashboard of my truck, with the defroster running on low heat for about 20 minutes, then let it sit overnight in a barely warm laboratory oven (about 110 degrees F). The next morning, the Home button continued to be finicky, but after a couple more hours, it worked fine and has been fine for almost two months now. Pretty durable sutff, these iPhones.

I recently dropped my phone in water yesterday. It worked yesterday after I dried it and all was fine the only thing was I did not have any sound so it would only vibrate when I had an incoming call. I could dial out, surf the web, I thought everything was ok with it and that the sound would come back after it dried out. Today, I cannot unlock the phone or have any ability to turn it off because the touch screen is not responding, but my sound its back. I do not mind waiting until it dries out but the thing is my alarm is on so every five minutes or so the alarm goes off and I can turn off alarm by hitting the sleep/wake button twice. I am still receiving email as it dings every time so I think it is still funtional, but like I said I cannot unlock it. Do you think during the course of drying this will resolve itself and I will be able to unlock the phone or should I start looking into sending it back for a refurbished one?

the crystals are what is packaged in everything electronic you buy plus a lot of other things that can be damaged by moisture. Check around the house for any packaging left over from recent purchases and you'll find some. The purpose of the sealed container would be to avoid additional moisture that is in the form of humiditiy from slowing down the process. DO NOT use a blow dryer or any other heat source as this can and probably will cause damage to delicate connectors on the circuit board.
