How to split cells into odd number of cells

Is there any way to split cells into an odd number of cells (rather than the default two equal sections). I have a merged cell that I now want to split up into three equal cell rows so that they line up with the surrounding columns, but each time I try to split it up I end up with cells that don't match the existing "grid" of cells (ie. I end up with cells that are 1 and 1/2 rows).

This simple feature would save me a whole lot of headache as I'm trying to keep things lined up in the schedule I'm creating. The default action is making it very difficult.

It seems that I must respond NO to your question because the PDF User's Guide says:

+Splitting Table Cells+
+*Splitting cells divides each selected cell into _two equal_ parts, horizontally (rows) or*+
+*vertically (columns)*. Both of the new cells have identical background colors or images.+

Thanks for the quick reply, Yvan. I guess I was hoping that I was missing something when I looked through the User's Guide.

Does anybody have a suggestion for a work around, or is there somewhere I could go to suggest this very simple and essential feature to the Apple folks?

I can't believe that with all the cool stuff that this program can do that they wouldn't allow you the flexibility to define the number of rows (or columns) you'd like to split into. I've apparently merged and split myself into a corner on this schedule, and I now have to start over if I want to keep the rows equally spaced. That seems rather silly.

Kobb,

Split the cell into two parts. Then split one of the two parts again. Now you have three cells. Then select all 3 parts and from the Numbers Command Menu choose: Table > Distribute Columns Evenly.

Now you have 3 equal-width cells where you formerly had one.
