iPod Touch does not hold 3,500 songs

My 16gb iPod Touch is supposed to hold 3,500 songs. I have about 425 songs on my iPod and there is only 5.6 gb left. I have 1 30 minute video and 3 pictures, so i do not understand why so little space is left. Please reply with any suggestions. Thanks.

First, you are posting to the wrong forum. This is an old Nano forums. You can report to the iTough forum if you want.
Anyway, what format do you import/encode your music with? In other words do you make MP3s, AACs, AIFF, WAV, or Apple Lossless? For maximum number of songs on the iPod you want small files sizes so you would normally want MP3 or AAC. The other formats are very large and eat up space fast.

Thanks for you help. I have many different formats for my music and I am trying to convert them all to AAC using iTunes. I am in the process of doing this so I am not sure if it works yet.

Thanks for the info on me posting this in the worng forum. This is my first time posting a question and I am not so sure how it works. Also, I re-posted this question in the iPod Touch Forum.
