Why does Apple TV disconnect from wireless network?

What sort of security are you using, (WEP/WPA/WPA2, personal or enterprise), are using mac filtering/DHCP server/manual DHCP etc.

mine does the same. I am using WPA2 Personal, no filtering and DHCP. The unit just seems to lose the wireless configuration. At first thought that it was switching to stronger AP signal from my neighbor, but not sure that is the case right now.

That seems OK, but have you tried another type of security.

I doubt WEP will be the problem, but you could determine this by removing security entirely for diagnostic purposes.

Yup, I've been having this wireless disconnect issue too. It also likes to randomly stop playing streaming audio every once in a while, and also reboot.

It worked great from April to November, maybe it was an iTunes or airport extreme update that's causing the issue, obviously not an Apple TV update, haven't had that since June.

Apple TV is the red-headed step child of Apple. It has been ignored for a very very long time. I don't know why they couldn't roll out buying from iTunes directly from the device when the introduced buying music on the iPhone. I'd probably buy so much more TV if I could do it from my TV. I know they're probably waiting to implement movie rentals, which will be great, but it shouldn't be hard to connect Apple TV to the iTunes store for direct purchases, because it is already connected.

Sorry for the rant. I really do love this device, and use it daily. It just needs a little TLC from Apple.

agree with your rant. The device has some great potential, not yet exploited. Personnally, I would like to see the USB port used to expand the disk storage.

hmmm. I had some problems when the recent 10.5.1 update, but with a reset of every component (imac, wireless router and ATV) all of my issues seem to have gone away. The ATV has stayed connected to both my wireless network and to iTunes on the iMac for a day and a half. Whoo hoo

I began having this problem a few weeks ago and have been pulling my hair out over it. I had no problem for the first year and a half. I feel like I finally solved it.

Go under utilities and select airport application. If you are using 10.5 select manual configuration then select wireless. Change it from auto select channel to a fixed channel.

I'm also trying to figure this out. I always thought it was my Linksys router, but when I bought an Airport Extreme the problem kept happening. The Apple TV seems to hold the connection for a few days before it loses it. But it ALWAYS loses it after a few days.

I have had this problem since I bought the original Apple TV 40GB in early 2007. The V2.0 update did not correct the problem. I use WPA Personal since WEP is not secure. Generally within 24 hours I have to re-enter the password, even when broadcasting the SSID. It's highly annoying.

I never had this problem with my original Apple TV 40GB when it first came out until now. It was only after upgrading to 2.0 did it start loosing my WPA password all the time and thus I would find it off the network until I re-configured it again with the WPA password to connect to the network again.

I had assumed it was relating to the 2.0 upgrade. Therefore I find it surprising that others had similar issues even prior to the 2.0 upgrade. I use my Apple TV quite often (probably at least once a day), I know it would sync with iTunes at least once a day (more often more than that). So for almost a full year, since I had it, I never had to retell it the WPA password until I upgraded to 2.0.

I also have the exact same problem. My access point is a Buffalo N running DD-WRT firmware. Nothing else that I have on my network has this issue.
