Iomega USB2 hard-drive is slow ... acting way to slow ... HELP ??
I transferred my itunes music folder from my G5 iMac (iSight) ... 204 GB worth ... it took nearly 4 hrs !!!! (The hard-drive IS connected to built in USB on computer, all other programs were closed, and this was simply a file transfer, drag and drop from folder to folder -- I did not drop it into iTunes)
I checked the CPU Activity Monitor, and it was only reading/writing at a max of 13 .5 MB/sec.
So I tried a transfer of itunes music from my Intel MacBook Pro, but only got a max of 18-19MB/sec.
So I went to Iomega site & found help question for being slow on MAC. Makes sense, that mac is reading the windows formatted disk slower, So I reformatted the drive to Mac Os Extended Format (Journaled). I was not sure whether to choose the Journaled or non journaled option, but my MacBook Pro's HD is journaled.
After this, the 1 TB Iomega disk appears readily on desktop once connected, whereas it took nearly 2 minutes initially.
So then I re-copied the 204 GB file and I STILL ONLY GOT a maximum read/write on the G5 of 14.5 MB/sec.
I though USB2 was suppose to be up to 40/sec. Does mac not wire the USB2 to take advantage of this ?? ... since they also provide firewire ( FW400 is suppose to be same at 40/sec isn't it ?)
Any thoughts ??
Does installing the REV SYstem Tools 2.2 from the iomega site at the link above seem like it would help the situation ??
Thanks
