Access to iPod controls from Home screen

So the other day my 16 month old is playing with my iPhone (i know, bad idea). Anyway, when I got the phone back, there was a transparent pane over my home screen with a pause button, skip, repeat etc. Secret combination of buttons that only a baby could figure out? I sure can't. Can somebody clue me in. Thanks, mmm

1 Ghz Powerbook G4 FW800, Mac OS X (10.4.10), 1.5 GB ram

When iPod is playing. You can double tap the home button (two quick presses) it will show iPod controls (even when locked).

If not playing iPod and you double tap, it will go to Favorite Contacts (for quick dialing).

In settings (forget where) you can alter it (though very little).

Settings, general, home button.....set as you like.
Double tap on home button does what you select above.
