iTunes (and Windows) cannot find iPod Touch

I am having a problem similar to some other threads. I followed your advice and stopped and started the "service" but in my case it did not solve the problem.

I bring up iTunes and connect my iPod Touch and get the following message:
"This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes install and remove iTunes, then install iTunes again"

I have now done this (reinstalled iTunes) a five (5) times. Even tried rebooting machine between uninstall and reinstalls.

This iPod worked just fine with iTunes until I had to move to a new machine. When I installed iTunes on the new PC, the above message started showing up. The iPod touch doesn't even show up in My Computer.

I did hook up my iPod Classic (using the same cables) and it works just fine.

When rereading the installation instructions, it sounds like the Touch and iTunes are out of sync. Is there someway to reset the iPod Touch that will force the software to be reloaded? I already did a "keyed" reset that deleted everything (literally) off of the iPod Touch.

This is really getting frustrating. I have a fairly cool iPod Touch that's completely empty and I can't get anything onto it.

Thanks in advance

Well, if an iPod Classic works....I would assume that the Apple Mobile Support driver isn't installed (or functioning) properly.

Here is what I would try.

1) Open up your control panel
2) Go to add/remove programs
3) remove itunes
4) remove quicktime
5) remove apple software updates
6) remove apple mobile device ( if it's there )
7) close control panel (and add/remove programs)
8) Open up My Computer
9) Go into the C: drive
10) Go into Program Files
11) Look for any folders called Apple Software Updates, Apple Mobile Device, iTunes, or Quicktime and DELETE them
12) Empty your recycle bin
13) Restart your computer
14) Download and Reinstall the iTunes

Test it out...see if that works and post back if you're getting the same message or not.
