Can't save changes in Preview

Can't save changes in Preview

No change that I make to a picture in Preview will save anymore. When I reopen, the changes are gone. Renaming the file doesn't help. I know I can do it w/iPhoto. I need to fix THIS problem. I see they're having a crashing problem w/Leopard, don't know if it's related. This goes for my iMac and my Powerbook.

Preview doesn't make any changes to the raw picture data - you will need to use an application such as iPhoto or GraphicConverter.

Then why does it bother asking if you want to save changes if it can't? Something has changed because I used to be able to save changes, and I see that folks with 10.5 are complaining that Preview crashes when they try to save changes.

It depends on the file type, since Preview lets you preview several different ones. RAW data is supported directly by the OS, so it probably wouldn't get changed anyway - just the way it is displayed, although it appears that doesn't happen either. I just use Preview to look at stuff - it is a bit too lightweight to actually do something iwth most file types, such as pictures or graphics.

I was able to make changes to JPEG files and be able to save them all the time in Preview. But for some reason I just can't anymore. This started happening around the time I upgraded my Quicktime app. And on a side note, a large number of my .mp4 files only play audio, no video. Go figure.

eh! has a post been edited here? of course preview can modify files; I use it a whole lot. dunno abt RAW files, but the original question doesn't mention raw format.

Preview modifies jpegs for sure; you can see the modified date & size change accordingly.

Yes, Preview saves changes in Raw files as well, does for me using Nikon's raw files.

Are you running 10.5. Leopard?

I have access to 10.5.2 and there is no issue with Preview crashing, it too saves changes in Nikon's raw files as well as other jpg files.

I have the same problems. Some files can be saved in preview (especially the ones I made with my digital camera) and some files can't be saved (jpeg scans made with "image capture"/"digitale Bilder").
This is really annoying, because now I've to look out for another application.
