I realize there are other topics about this, but I haven't found one with my particular problem. Basically, when I have the router connected, AirPort detects it perfectly, but I only get internet for 2 to 5 minutes, then my internet acts as if the connection has been cut off, but AirPort still displays a strong signal. I called Belkin, spoke to a "senior tech" and after all the firmware updates and setting changes, I still have he same problem: AirPort shows strong signal, internet drops after a few minutes. So the tech at Belkin told me that the router was faulty and to return it.
The funny thing is that when I was "borrowing" internet from someone else in my complex, I was getting perfect, fast internet. Now that I decided to do right, I get problems. I have a feeling that once I get the new router from Belkin, I'm gonna have the same problems. Anyone have any suggestions before I return this tomorrow? Should I even bother, or just return the router to the store? And If I go with a different router, which one has worked best with MBP w/ Leopard?
Have you got a modem connected to the router? I think the belkin N routers have a built in modem, but anyway make sure you have the ISP settings correct on your router for your ISP. It may have worked with the other internet because the default settings suited their ISP.
I was having the same problem as you. It would still show that its connected to the router through airport but it would not work on the internet. The only way I found of fixing it is setting the wireless settings on the router to G only. Been running fine since I changed that
try manually setting your IP Address, router address and DNS servers in your Mac. The problem you encountered could be due to some compatibility problems between Mac and the Belkin, resulting in DHCP or some other "auto" mode in the wireless router not functioning properly.
I have been experiencing the same problems. So I did what was suggested by changing the route to "G" only. So far Ive been connected to the internet (wireless) for almost 2 hours. Before the connection would only last maybe 15 mins or less before i would have to click on network diagnostics. Hopefully this will help now. So thank you for the suggestion, but is there anything else i should be doing? Im completely new to apple products, and routers (Belkin).
my dad has this router .. and i hate it
the first day, it didnt work with any wireless device, only the one that had the n1 wireless card installed
i did this... in the router setup .. i changed it to a less common chanel( in my case 4) the encryption i set to WPA (try WPA+WPA2 first, it worked for me, if not WPA alone) and AES or TKIP (which ever you prefer but not at the same time) i left it in a/b/g/n and updated to the latest firmware
it has been working fine scince then
also disable firewalls on your system as the router has its own
I believe since 802.11n is still in draft, apple has choose to not allow you to utilize your b/g/n wifi cards. For some reason since you have a b/g/n card it tries to connect to the .11n versus .11g or b. You must pay the $1.99 listed here on apples site:
I have the Belkin N router(not to be confused with the more expensive N1) and it works great. Its easy to get into the setup via a browser(on a mac or pc)to make changes. I use it with two home built PCs and my MBP. Speed and range are far better than my old Linksys G router. After you set it up you said it worked fine...why do you hate it? I understand the same equipment brings different results in different wireless situations, but for me this router has been well worth the $79 I paid for it.
Still having a few issues with the enabler, It seems that even though I am able to connect at N speeds, i am not entirely able to utilize it. I am going to call apple on it and see if I can get anywhere with them.
I have a similar problem with this N Belkin router, I have found the following most of the problems go away when you disable security.... I am still chasing Belkin for result. Why buy an N router if you cant use the speed ?
