how do i work with a .toast file

I have a .toast file i have that i want to convert into a .mov file to edit in final cut. The .toast file acts like a DVD when I work with it and QT, or FC won't recognize it. I there a way to convert this to a .mov so I can work with it?

To my knowledge, a .toast file is a disc image. Launch Toast and use it to mount the image - it will appear as a DVD disc on the desktop. Next, use MPEG Streamclip to convert the DVD's VOB files into whatever format matches your FCP Sequence settings. Import the resulting file into your FCP project.

NOTE: coming from highly compressed DVD-Video, the footage will not have the same quality as the original. Always use the original camera video whenever possible.
