Bose Sounddock Ruined Iphone HELP!!!

Hello,

I plugged my Iphone last night into a friends Bose Sounddock. Right away the screen began to flicker in all different directions. I immediatly unplugged it and the screen continued to do this. I tried placing a call to the iphone and the screen changed colors while doing the flicker but the phone did not ring. The phone than began to overheat before it died on me. After getting home I hooked up the phone to my Imac and it began to charge showing it had a low battery. A few moments later the phone turned everything appeared to be fine but it had no service. I went to my photos to see if I had lost anything and the phone froze on a white screen. I hooked it back up to my computer and it will not see it. I also tried to charge it on my computer and also the car charger and it will not take a charge. I've google searched this problem and it appears I am not the first one this has happened to, but I can not find what went wrong or how to fix this problem. Has anyone had this happen to them? Your thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I called Bose they are going to replace my Sounddock for me. They tried to blame the phone going out on me saying that they were not liable since I didn't use the proper plug-in cradle attachment. I explained to them how I went thru the owners manual and there was nothing about having to use an attachment for the iphone. I searched the 74 page .pdf on their website and nothing for "iphone" came up. After I said that they told me that they will cover the repair costs for my phone that I just need to fax them the reciept. So now my next question: My iphone was unlocked. Will Apple still repair this phone? Do I need to attempt to restore it first? Bose is picking up the repair so the cost will not be a problem. Thanks again for your help guys! Below are a few quick links I had for others who had similar problems to mine.

Well being that it was an unlocked phone that may have cause your problems with the dock. That being said, if you take an unlocked phone into Apple they're going to tell you that it's no longer under warranty. That being the case, they'll charge you for any repairs done. If you want to try restoring it, then go right ahead, hopefully you don't brick it.

No matter, if Bose is going to pay for repairs, then do whatever you feel is best.

Just curious, would have been an interesting situation if it had been some other friend's dock, not in your domicile, if Bose would have replaced their Sounddock and your iPhone. You didn't mention, what was the damage to the Sounddock?

I would strongly urge you to unjailbreak your iPhone before having it repaired as Apple might fix it and void your warranty at the same time, leaving you vulnerable over the next 6 months.

One other thing: if connecting the phone killed both devices, and we know that the two can be used together, you might want to check the power to your home, particularly for ground issues. Otherwise you could experience this again and it is doubtful they will pay a second time.

This not true. Your phone does not have to be activated to be covered by the warranty.

It is true that jail-breaking, installing 3rd Party apps or unlocking your phone will void your warranty. However if your iPhone is killed by an SoundDock you can't test for this without taking the iPhone apart.

I had exactly the same problem where my Bose SoundDock fried my iPhone. I took it into the Apple store, they tried a couple of things and then, even though it wasn't activated said they would replace it.

I'm in the UK - not sure if that makes any difference.

The problem seems to be with older SoundDocks. I have one from a couple of years ago. I read somewhere that the older models use a different voltage for charging. It's this that can damage your iPhone.

It appears that newer models (of the SoundDock) don't suffer from this problem.
