How do I adjust audio playback speaker balance in Itunes for Windows?

I was copying a cd to Itunes when a "player" quickly appeared. It was small, orange, and nothing I had ever seen before i.e. not associated with any other existing program. It had my CD song info on it, volume control, time remaining, etc as well as a balance "knob" on the left. Since the balance knob was unlabeled, I moved it to see what is was - counter-clockwise gave more volume to the left speaker proving what I thought. A distraction caused me to click on the (X) which closed this "device". Since all Itune audio playback is now 80% left speaker, I thought I would go back in and adjust it accordingly but am unable to bring this "player" back up. Finding the "miniplayer" via CTRL M is unhelpful as no balance control is offered. As for the CD I was copying, it was a store-bought (at least 10 years ago) Creedence album which would never contain a bonus computer audio player.

Can anybody help me reset the audio playback balance for itunes on my Windows XP machine?

There's no window like that from iTunes. My guess is was part of your audio card software, or other software you aren't aware of.

In any case, I don't think you need to find that software to fix your balance. Open the "Sounds and Audio Devices" Control Panel. On the "Volume" tab, click the "Advanced..." button. In the window that appears, there should be balance controls for your audio output channels. Find the one that is not centered and center it.

Rob
