Text files in iPod nano?

I would like to put a text file in my notes folder on my iPod nano. Which application should I use? I tried a word doc, but I couldn't read it. I used a TextEdit file, It's all jumbled up, but I can see what I typed.

PowerBookG4, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

You should use plain text documents. So if you want to use Word, you can but you have to save a copy with Save As... and then change the type to Plain Text. Otherwise try Notepad.

BEAUTIFUL!! THANK YOU! I saved my document and choose Text Only, and it showed up on my iPod PERFECT!

Is there a way to enlarge the size of the possible text file I can import? So far, any file larger than one printed page (average) is cut short.

The limit is intentional so there is no way to exceed it. There is software out there that will split a large text file into smaller chunks for you, but the limit is so small (4K), that you end up with a LOT of files and it's a pain in the butt to navigate them. Unfortunately, the Notes function is just not that good at present.
