How to create a ringtone using GarageBand?

Hi,

Is there any simple tutorials anywhere explaining how to create a ringtone using an iTunes track or mp3 music file in GarageBand?

I'm in the UK and cannot purchase ringtones from iTunes as yet.

Thanks in advance! David.

Hi, thanx for the link, however my Garageband version is 3.0.4 and does not have a Share with iPhone drop down menu.

I have created a 40 sec track and shared with iTunes, so it is now in my iTunes library. However, I cannot drag it to my ringtones folder in my iTunes Library so I can't sync it onto my iPhone.

Anyone know what to do?

As stated in the link provided:

Here's what you need to do it:

GarageBand 4.1.1 or later
iTunes 7.5 or later
iPhone with software version 1.1.2 or later

Which means that you will either have to upgrade your GarageBand or use another Mac friend Music Editor program to create your ringtone. I am not sure if Audacity has a Mac version but that is what I and alot of windows users use.

Hopefully Allen or another can tell you what other free options you might have.

Good Luck

Here are some very simple instructions to create a ringtone in Garage Band. Drag your song(s) in from iTunes or from your CD which has been copied into iTunes. If it is an AAC protected file, Garage Band will disallow making a ringtone and it will tell you so.

• Cut the song to 30-40 seconds of the section you want.
• From the drop down menu, choose 'share' (not share with iPhone)
• Export to disk/desktop. Compress using AAC
•Change the file name from m4a to m4r
•Drag into iTunes

Have fun!
