Comping not working

Hi there, has anyone else had this problem. Having been using Logic 8 since it came out with no hassles, and recently did the upgrade to 8.0.1. Now, in this one particular session I'm doing, the comp function won't work. When I go into loop to record, it just creates new regions on top of the old, getting rid of the old in the process (though these still appear in the bin as they should with the correct information). they just don't appear in the arrange secion, and have to be dragged back in manually. It's like it's done everything to make the comp folder, but then the actual comp functions aren't available (ie, not triangle, drop down menus, and only the last take left on top). If I create new track instances and record different takes onto those, I can then manually create a comp folder and it works, but it won't do it by itself. If I open a new session, the comping function works fine, but that doesn't help me on this track, and I've still got a fair bit of recording to do. The session I'm working on is reasonably large, by I'm certainly not anywhere near maxing out.

I'd be grateful for clues anyone can give me.

many thanks,

Elliott

There are still many problems with comping function. Audios dissapear and/or moves from original place. Logic creates new comps automatically. Some times I loose comps saved days ago and find them at multimedia audio pool. It´s a mess..
Even recording sometimes logic loose last take and insert aa older take randomly at any start-end point.
On a specific song, when I reopend, I loose all audios from 1rst part of song...I made the comp after recording and before closing logic because I thougth this way audios will not move...I was wrong.

While that is a problem and DEFINITELY should be fixed, there are ways to guarantee a perfect comp every time - complete all comps before closing your session.

Do your comps, hit the arrow to the right of the region, choose flatten, then use the glue tool and consolidate the file.

To be quite honest, there really is no reason why anyone should leave unfinished comps. . . choosing a good take is usually done during the tracking process - that is how you know whether or not you are done tracking.

Just a word of advice.

There is no rules to work with comps. Some times we rerecord takes 1 or 2 days after original recordings were made. Many times I need to listen takes again with talent or producer on my side and we make changes 2 or 3 days before we record the takes. I have recorded on Nuendo or DP this way without problems. I can open sessions from 2 or 3 years ago on other programs without problems.
Comping function on logic simply do no work as must be. Nobody must be worried about loosing it. Image leaving a midi arrange unfinished and restart your work the next day just to find that your sequences are in the wrong place...

There definately is!

Choosing takes with a distance is mostly a better way to select them..so a proper save is absolutely critical! (same argument would be if logic wouldn't be able to save MIDI regions - just bounce your MIDI/inst Tracks right away..):-)

Apart from that the feature to be able to do different comps is useless also..having to consoldate every comp is not cool...

at is really a annoying bug..and aqqs it happenes so often, I can't believe that hasn't been caught in Betatesting...
