Fonts not displaying properly in PDFs in Preview

I have the exact same issue. Both quicklook and preview images have garbled text but in Adobe Acrobat the files look fine. I have deleted the user file com.apple.preview.plist and then restarted. The issue goes away temporarily after a reboot but then returns. I do not see this issue under any other user on the computer so I figure it has to be a user pref. Any ideas out there?

This is a constant problem for us too (on our new Leopard only machines), any program that uses the OS to display PDFs will keep dropping type.

This means the finder, preview, keynote and mail applications. Our placed PDFs in keynote slides don't show type. In finder windows, the type in pdfs (the icon) is sporadic at best, in mail and entourage the type on pdfs in email is also sporadic. Preview itself is completely hot or miss. But open the same pdf in acrobat and viola, perfect.

Clearing the font caches and restarting is only a temporary fix.

This is an inexcusable bug that makes doing professional design work (the sole reason we have macs) extremely difficult. I wish we had not upgraded any of our computers.

This problem is ridiculous, and I am experiencing it too.

Even the Apple user manuals are using the wrong font now! It looks terrible!

I've had this problem since Leopard, and maybe also since Tiger. Thank goodness for Adobe Reader, but meanwhile I can't look at some pdfs in Safari.

Fix it, Apple!

Apple had reset the PRAM (Alt-Apple-P-R) on reboot and we have free of the problem for a week now. Will advise if this changes

We've also started experiencing this issue on MacBook Pro with 10.5. PDFs open but are unreadable - blocks of gibberish instead of text. The document opens fine with Acrobat reader, but cant be Previewed.
