Apple Care Certificate ?

Hi,

I got Apple Care with my iMac a month ago; I enrolled Apple Care the day I bought the computer. After I registered my protection plan, Apple said they will send me (by mail) a "Certificate" for it. It's been a month now and still I haven't received this so called Certificate. Do I absolutely need this certificate ? What is it for ?

Thanks

Mac OS X (10.5.1)

Even with the holidays, the certificate has probably been mailed. However, some mail service has been slow. You might want to check and make sure that the Apple ID you logged in with prior to registering your Plan does have your current address attached to it.

Since your Mac and Plan are already registered, no, you really won't need the Certificate. All you really need when you call AppleCare or go for service is the unit's serial number and the Plan's enrollment number. I believe the Certificate is simply for your peace of mind, or for those who have trouble trusting in technology:)

Don't forget to keep a dated sales receipt/invoice with the unit's serial number.
That's the one-and-only definitive means of establishing date-of-purchase.

The online estimate of warranty expiration date in Apple's data base is just that:
an estimate. If you have a failure near the end of warranty/AppleCare you might
have to produce hard evidence of the actual date-of-purchase.

Hi Conan Red

Another quick way to check up on your AppleCare Warranty is to enter your Serial # in the link below for the TechTool Deluxe download. Your AppleCare Warranty info will come up along with the download link for TechTool Deluxe.

How can I check the address attached to my Apple ID prior to my AppleCare registration ?

First, verify which Apple ID you used to register your AppleCare. If you believe that you used the same ID you are now using for Discussions, click the "Support" section of the menu bar at the top of this page. Scroll down the main Support page to the "AppleCare" section in the far right column, and click on the link for "Register and View AppleCare Agreements>"

You will then either log in to your account, or you will see a list of the "AppleCare Agreements" that have been registered to your Apple ID and that are current. On the left you will see the "Agreement Type" column, and on the right the "Agreement Number" column. Find "APP - IMAC/EMAC" on the left and the enrollment number of the AppleCare Plan that you registered for your iMac on the right. If the enrollment is listed as you expect, you have verified which account needs to have its Account profile updated. If you have no AppleCare Agreements registered to that Apple ID, there will two empty boxes below the two column headings, and no listings.

If your Agreement isn't listed, that means you used a different Apple ID to register the AppleCare for your iMac. Log out and then log into the correct Apple ID and repeat the above until you find the Apple ID to which you registered your iMac's AppleCare. Once you have logged into your correct account, go to
http://myinfo.apple.com/
and check the address listed in your account profile. That will be where your AppleCare Certificate was mailed. Update your profile if necessary, although it will probably be too late to impact the mailing that already went out. Log out.

Not only is it a good idea, for proof of purchase, to retain the iMac's purchase invoice, either the original store Invoice or a copy of the emailed Invoice you received from Apple, but it may be necessary to also provide proof of purchasing AppleCare. DON'T rely on Apple to provide either of these in the future. In the past they have not been able to do so, but may still require that you be able to do so. If you can not, you may have to accept their "estimated" date of purchase, which I've found can be wrong by at least FOUR months.
