i1 Photo LT X-Rite Photo Spectrometer not being recognized

Hey all, new guy here, I just upgraded to OS X 10.5.1 from 10.4.9 and now my Eye-One Pro Photo Spectrometer and the Eye-One Match 3 (3.6.2 the latest version) software will not work.

the software will start up quickly if the Photo Spectrometer is not plugged in but it requires the USB hardware (Spectrometer) to be attached in order to run, now if I plug it in and then start up the software it will hang up for a while then it will still display that the USB hardware is not attached. Also if I plug in the USB hardware after the program is running, it will hang but will never recognize the device. I know the device is not bad because it will show correctly in system profiler, i just cant get the software to recognize it

I have contacted X-Rite and am awaiting a response from them but i was wondering if anybody had any solutions? Any help is appreciated

Thanks.

Have been in contact with X-rite for a while now, still no satisfactory answer, they have suggested installing the downloaded update from apple, trying a usb 1.1 hub and rebuilding permissions.

The interesting thing is that the system profiler will recognize the Photo Spectrometer and will say it is connected, the software will not recognize it, the old software 3.6.1 will hang for a second when you plug in the photo spectrometer, the new software will lock up completely, it seems to be some sort of issue with the software communicating with the operating system..it is very annoying...

Below is a response i recieved from X-Rite:

Hi Stewart,
I see from your e-mails that you continue to have issues with USB devices and your Mac, and in particular in seeing the i1 device.

I can tell you from dealing a fair number of similar situations, we are dealing with USB communication changes. Later versions of Tiger and all versions of Leopard are triggering all manner of issues for end users, as you can see from the Apple User forums.

I would suggest that you would be advised to log a support call with Apple to report this anomaly, and then try a fresh install of the newest Leopard version, 10.5.2. In addition, if you have access to the programmer tools from Apple, you might try running some of the USB sniffer programs available to the programming community. Some of the technical notes I've been reading recently are indicating that simply installing and running such a sniffer program is resetting some OS specific files for USB connectivity, and improving things for them.

As we've said in the past, we're still not posting an official version of i1Match for Leopard, so we can only fully support a Tiger installation of i1Match and the device. We're more than willing to help a Leopard user, but we will need you to understand that you are currently using an OS version that is still maturing.

I hope that this is helpful information.
Bruce

I have no idea what he is talking about with USB Sniffing.. does anybody else know?

it worked fine on my PB when it ran 10.4.11 it just stopped working under 10.5 I am going to try to reset the PMU (Power Manager) and see if that is the issue. if that doesnt work I think i might try an Archive and Install of OS X 10.5... maybe it works, ill keep posted

Dear Stew,

I don't know your case in detail but maybe this information helps:

*i1Pro Instrument not detected on Mac*

+As of April 2008, there is an incompatibility issue with i1Pro Rev D instruments running on MacOS X 10.5 which appears to be caused by HP printer drivers distributed through the internet and on the CDs which ship with certain HP printers. Installations using the HP printer drivers supplied by Apple with the MacOS X 10.5 installation disk are not affected.+

+We have found that temporarily removing the driver (HP does provide uninstall utilities for some of their printer software) has resolved i1 communication issues for some of our clients. Once you have uninstalled the software, restart your Mac, then rebuild the Disk Permissions for your startup disk with Apple's Disk Utility software.+

+If you are able to connect to the i1 device to our i1Diagnostics software after doing so, please run the diagnostic program and save the resulting log file. This may be very useful information to provide to HP Support, should you require their assistance to reinstalling their printer driver.+

+X-Rite is working on a more convenient solution to fix this problem. Please check the i1 solutions page on xrite.com for updates in the next several weeks.+
