Help! iPod not able to restore

Hello

So anyways I got an iPod Touch and it worked fine for a while, well actually since last night. I was just turning it on like usual and it froze. So I held the home and sleep buttons till it restarted. When it did restart the apple start screen came up like normal but then the connect to iTunes screen came up. When I connected it to iTunes it said "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." So I did that. And at first it worked it was restored to it's original settings, and that screen came up that asks what you want to call it and stuff. Well, it asked me if I wanted to just use the backed up files of my iPod. I said yes. It started to reload my backed up iPod onto it but then it stopped and said it had some sort of error.

Now anytime I try to use it the "connect to iTunes" screen shows up, and I connect it to iTunes, but then the "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." message comes up and I try to restore it. It starts restoring it at first, but it always stops at the "preparing iPod for restore" part and the message " The iPod 'username' could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6)." comes up. Then the cycle starts all over again.

I really don't know what to do. I've seen others with this same problem and I didn't see that they had gotten any solution as of yet either. I've tried deleting my restore software and downloading it again, I've tried other things, too, but if you have any suggestions PLEASE let me know! It would be greatly appreciated.

thank you,
Fina

That's what I would try to do if I could. However, it only asked me if I wanted to use the backup that first time I tried to restore it. Being ignorant of what would happen I said yes.

Now the only messages that appear are this one:"iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." and this one: "The iPod 'username' could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6)." So I really don't know how to not to use the backup.

Thanks a lot for your time and help with my problem. I tried everything you said to do and everything the help pages say to do, but unfortunately nothing seems to work. 😟

If I find a solution I'll post it, for future reference, but as of now it seems unlikely that I'll find one, short of sending it to the apple store.

Anyways thank you for all you suggestions. 🙂
