Replacement DVD-ROM for G3 400 MHz iMac [ca. 2000]

We have an iMac 400 MHz DVD-ROM Special Edition ca. 2000 .

{ YES, I know the computer is 8 years YOUNG !! I have upgraded the RAM to one GB and it works just fine and suites our needs No need to buy a new iMac -- Sorry Steve Jobs !!]

We are presently running OSX 10.4.latest, and will switch to OSX 10.5 soon enough.

I need to replace the internal DVD-ROM drive which is a MATSHITA DVD-ROM SR-8184. It has gone BAD - does not take in nor eject discs.

I would appreciate suggestions from the Forum for a replacement DVD-ROM drive which will fit fit into the CD-DVD-ROM // HDD Carrier and will work with our iMac. Please state manufacturer and model number.

Can the G3 processor 100 MHz bus handle a unit with write capabilities ??

Thanks,

Samuel
