Hi

I'm having the same problem. I have a Sony Ericsson z800i and I really would like it to sync with iCal. But iSync doesn't seem to be able to see or identify the phone. It simply doesn't show up on the iSync menu, when I run a "Add unit". I'm using the USB-cble to connect the phone, and it shows itself on the desktop - just like it should. I can drag and drop files on the phone. But I can't use iSync to sync it with iCal.

Any - absolutely any - suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'm running 10.3.9

And by the way... The z800i is the absolutely coolest phone I've ever had. I'm almost as happy for my z800i as I am for my Mac... Well... ok... almost.

Uuuhhaaa - the hack on this guys site is for 10.4. and I'm running 10.3. And developing a new hack based on his is a bit to much roket-science to me anyway. But thx a lot for the help.

It appears, however, that iSync 2.0 (for 10.4) is supporting z800i. So if you're running Tiger, AlienCamel, you should really consider buying one. But were I work, 10.3 is standard - and I don't think my admin is about to change that for quite a while.

Oops - sorry about that - I'm also watching a thread about the Nokia 6680 and got confused.

Quick question about the Z800i - what is the upper limit on the number of contacts and calendar entries I can have on the phone? I use my Treo as a backup of my contacts and calendar, and most of the SE phones of late have had a hard limit of 300 contacts and a small number of calendar entries.

For Z(V) 800 users with 10.3.x try this: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20041118143359172&query=v800
After this syncing with adressbook and iCal worked, but no dialing or smsing from adressbook.
In 10.4 the phone is supported with the exception of dialing and smsing.
For that do this:

1. Quit and backup your Address Book app... bla bla bla ...

2. Control click on the Address Book app, select Show Package Contents, then navigate to Contents -> Resources.

3. Control click on Telephony.bundle, Show Package Contents, then navigate to Contents -> Resources

4. Open ABDeviceCommandSets.plist with Property List Editor (or a text editor to change the XML in a more primitive way)

5. Find this array in the ABDeviceCommandSets.plist: Root -> 1 -> ABDeviceModelStrings ... you should see two string entries here, T610 and Z600. Add another string entry, or change one that you will not use with the value V800. Save and quit

Now relaunch Address book. SMS and dialing may now work with your V800.

As always: before you do anything, backup, backup,.......
and pair from the phone to the mac FIRST.
You must use bluetooth, USB is for iPhoto to transfer your pictures.

Thx a lot Mr. Kerschbaumer!

Full of excitement I ran the script, held my breath, pushed the button in iSync and... it didn't work... Sigh!... Maybe because the script is written to V800 and not Z800i?

I know the two phones carry almost the same software, so do you think, switching the name "V800" in the script to "Z800i" would make a difference?

(Bare with me - I know next to nothing about scripting for Mac. Scripts for commercials - however - is another matter. 🙂

Hi Kenneth,
You can try it, just open the script with textedit and change the entrys.
Close and save and run the script again.
Then delete the entrys about your phone in systempreferences - bluetooth.
Pair from your phone to the mac and you´ll get a window where you can select the services for your phone, check all (iSync should not be greyed out).

Hi Michael

Thx for your advices.

Yeah - I know I wrote I pushed the button. It must be my limited knowledge of the english vocabulary. What I actually meant was, that I tried to add a unit to iSync. But it just cannot find it.

I also tried swapping the "V800" in the script with both "Z800", "Z800i" and "Sony Ericsson Z800i"... But alas - no luck.

You wrote, that I should delete info about my phone under Bluetooth in sys-prefs... But I'm trying to connect via the USB. I haven't got a Bluetooth device. And there is no Bluetooth-options under sys-prefs.

Hmmm... Maybe thats the prob?

Hi Michael

IT WORKS! Yeeeehaaaaa!

I went out and invested 70 bucks in a Bluetooth USB-thingy straight after work, plugged it in, paired my Mac and Z800i FROM THE PHONE (spend a few hours reading discussions to figure that out. Found out that you had given that advice to someone in another thread) and... Voila: My phone automatically popped up in iSync.

Thx for your patience, Michael. Your advices has been really good and helpful.

Owe you big time
