Lost Phone Contacts! (Motorola v551)

After recently syncing for the first time up to my phone, I "merged contacts", hoping to create a backup of my phone in my address book... only to find all the contacts stored on my phone erased. I thought maybe they all transfered to my address book and off of my phone somehow, and check it - nothing there! The numbers stored on my SIM card remained on my phone, but the numbers that were stored on my phone are gone, with no trace, and I only merged, never deleted.

I didn't find anything on here before posting, so forgive me if I missed it, but I did try looking.

Anyone have any similar problems? Particularly contacts data loss? Any ideas on maybe how I can try and recover them? I was hoping iSync stores changes/contacts in logs or something but couldnt find anything. Please help!

I just did the same thing and was wondering if you had any luck in getting back the contacts on your phone. My unlucky phone was the Moto V3 Razr and am desperate to get my numbers back urgently. Surprisingly as i went through the received and dialled lists on the phone and tried to store the numbers the names would appear, so the previous numbers should still be in there somewhere, the question is how to get them back.

When I synced my Motorola V551, I prepared the address book in advance by creating a new category that I called "Cell Phone". I left this category empty. I then created another category called Numbers and Addresses. I placed all contacts with friends and associates in that place. The reason for doing this was that the cell phone didn't have provisions for different addresses, etc.

I then used iSync to merge the V551 with the "Cell Phone" sub-category and it promptly copied all my cell phone entries over to the computer. I will use this category to refine the entries on the V551 from now on.

The master list in the address book has ALL the entries in it from both "Cell Phone" and "Numbers and Addresses"

This works for me - hope it helps.
