Mysteriously missing data...
I know the mantra, "Drives don't lose data, users do." I have been in the business a long time, but I have never seen this before:
We have a Xserve (intel w/ 10.4.11) with an Xraid attached (one side is full, RAID 5, the other side totally empty) (both less than a year old).
A VERY reliable and technically skilled user states that a Dir is missing.
I confirm on the Xraid that it is indeed missing. It seems to have disappeared, but I just assume that he accidentally deleted it or moved it. Nope, the logs and rsync confirm that it was not deleted. So I think, ok, a hiccup, data is restored from backup no biggie.
THEN, one of my Systems guys reports a Dir that "disappeared" from the RAID directory structure. Ugh. I check it out, same scenario, it does, indeed, appear to have vanished.
Outside of fowl play, has EVERYONE ever seen this before??
