Safari - POSIX error 12 - cannot allocate memory

If you haven't already done so, I'd suggest rebooting your iPod. This isn't the same as turning it off with a quick tap to the button on top. Quite often a reboot of a computer will clear up a temporary memory issue. From the ipod touch manual:

Press and hold the
Sleep/Wake button on top of iPod touch for a few seconds until a red slider appears,
then drag the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo
appears.

Hope this solves it and you don't see the error again.

yeah that didnt work for me

I just purchased an iPod touch and updated the firmware and software to the January update. After updating, I have the same error. I contacted Apple support and we went through the restore process. Only when the Jan. update is installed is there a problem. I will call them tomorrow and continue to troubleshoot. I suspect a bug in their update.

I would double check Settings> Wifi>your network name> make sure you have proxy servers set to off. If that doesn't help try "forget this Network" in Wifi>your network name, then reconnect to your network.

Solved this problem. After talking with Apple Support all that is needed after you load the January iPod Touch update is to go to Settings, General, Reset, Reset Network Settings. After the iPod Touch reboots re-establish your network and all should be fine.

I just had the POSIX error 12 message appear in my brand new Touch running Safari. I tried the Apple suggestion of holding down the button at the top, sliding the red button across and rebooting. It worked!

Not only did it work in Safari, it worked in all the Internet applications. I was having limited success in downloading mail, updating Stocks, checking weather and running Google Maps. All that changed with a simple system reboot. Now everything absolutely rocks!
