problems with PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D, not burning etc...

I replaced the Superdrive burner that shipped with my Power Mac G4 (Quicksilver 2002. I am currently using Mac OS 10.4.11 The unit I replaced it with, PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D, is not working properly and it's less than one yr after installing it. Seemed to work fine in reading media and burning, both CDs and DVDs, but now it only burns DVDs and won't burn CDs and selectively reads CDs and DVDs, but plays Video DVDs consistently.....

I tried to clean the lens with the Maxell Lens Cleaner CD-345 (Brush system, no liquids or wiping by hand). It did not work.

I tried Patchburn....burn at slower speeds, did not work.

I can't burn 32x CD-Rs. The specs say I should be able to burn up to 40x CD-R. When I attempt to burn thru iTunes, I get the this message" The attempt to burn disc failed. The burn failed because of a medium write error."

Cannot burn thru Finder....

When I use the application Toast 8 to burn a CD I get this message:

The drive reported an error:
Sense Key = HARDWARE ERROR
Sense Code = 0x44, 0xD9
INTERNAL TARGET FAILURE

The only thing I haven't tried is too reset the cuda/pmu chip...any downside to doing that?

Thanks for the help in advance....

Hi,
Your can reset the PRAM or PMU button, you might have to adjust some personal settings afterwards. Sounds like you've done everything else.
Sometimes those devices just fail. If that 112D is less than a year old, use your warranty. Call or go to the Pioneer website, get an RMA number and send it in, they send you another. I've done it in the past, usually a fast turnaround.

Regards,
Dave
