There have been some discussions in this forum on cdr- and img files created in Disk Utility, but I could not find an answer to my problems. I have a number of dvd's made in FCE and IDVD. One of my daughters asked for a copy of some dvd's, no problem i thought. But in fact it is a problem. I understood from an earlier discussion in this forum that i should make a copy in Disk Utility ( post dec. 19 by panthpatel11), which results in a cdr-file. These cdr-files can be burnt in Disk Utility or Toast. I followed the instructions. Now the problem is that these cdr-files can only be played by VLC, not by QT, not in WMP or any other mediaplayer. Even worse: i loose all functionalities of the original dvd, all movies, separated on the original, now are combined to one long movie, menues show up, but don't work. When i copy these cdr-files to a blank dvd, using Toast, the dvd is written and even verified (successfull!!!), but they dont play in any dvd-player or computer. There must be better ways to do something so simple. Can someone advise?
imacG5,
Mac OS X (10.4.8),
1.5 G, canon 330i, fce 2.0.3, lacie external
The process is simply - but it
is possible to do it incorrectly. If done incorrectly you end up with a Mac OS Extended format disc instead of the necessary UDF format disc need to play the disc in set top DVD players.
which version of Toast did you try? That should give you a UDF formatted copy.
Only if done correctly - and Toast 6, 7 and 8 all have changes in the method used. It can be quite easy to create a data DVD instead of a video DVD from a disk image file with Toast.
Thank you all, for helping. I checked all suggestions and found out that i had done exactly what I should do. So what went wrong? I am not sure, but probably the failures have been caused by either the outdated version of Toast (5.2.3), or the usage of Sony dvd's, or the combination of both. Finally I used an other burning app ("Burn") and Verbatim dvd's and burning copy-dvd's with full functionality works without problems. Thanks again for your assistance.
