Cannot upgrade to 10.5.1

Hi. I've downloaded the upgrade and am prompted to restart the computer. However I get a popup message that says

The update "Mac OSX update" can't be installed.
The installer could not locate some files in "/".

Any idea what this means?

MacBook Pro with lots of extra stuff, Mac OS X (10.5), iPhone in pocket, iPod in car, Adobe everything

No, not at all.

If you restart from the Leopard disk and then choose your language, then stop right there.

Go to the menu and choose Utilities and then drop down to Disk Utility.
I would repair your disk from there as there might be a problem with you internal HD.
If it doesn't find any problems, then just back out of the disk and restart.
If it does repair something, then maybe you will be able to go back to your normal startup disk and install the 10.5.1 update.
