My (legal) SIM-Lock Free Iphone is fully locked after 1.1.3

Hello,

I've bought an iPhone sim lock free, during the unload week in germany. Worked fine except the phone function, the bug's everybody had.

Today i thought, i maybe the 1.1.3 update would fix this, but after updateing the iPhone i now totally can't use the iPhone anymore, its fully locked.

What can i do?

iMac Intel Core 2 Duo Ghz 24", Mac OS X (10.5.1), iPhone,Apple TV , iPod Touch, Macbook Pro 17" 2.33 , Airport Extreme 802.11n

Hi,

the same happend to me.

I bought my IPhone on Dec 1 2007 at the T-Punkt in Nuernberg for Euro 999. That was the official price for the "unlocked" version for about a month. It was unlocked as promised by T-Mobile after 2 days from Apple and worked fine with my Vodafone sim card until this evening.

ITunes was updated first to 7.6, than my IPhone to firmware 1.1.3.

After the next restart my ITunes told me that my Iphone has to be activiated with a valid sim card. Exactly the screen I had during the fist 2 days after the purchase. Before it was activated.

Its a shame to sell the phone for 999 Euro unlocked and after the next software update it is locked.

Apple has to unlock my (and probably a lot more) as soon as possible.

regards,
Frank

Hello

writing from Luxembourg, the same problem here.
also bought a 999 Euro, 1.1.2 installed when I got it. My Luxembourgish sim card was recognized after 3-4 days after I got the phone.

Phone & SMS did not work. After infinite calls with t-mobile helpline and apple helpline, they told me (september'07) they are aware of the problem, and there will be soon a new software release which will solve this issue.

Great well soon was about 4 month, where I had this really expensive ipod of mine, now finally a new version is there.

Did an update, did work, but then, it asked to connect to itunes to activate my simcard, which I did (same game as for 1.1.2). But now it says, that my simcard (the one working in 1.1.2) is not supported ????

So now they got us the update, but great now we cannot even use the iphone as ipod, far away from the phone which we paid for a lot (!!) of money.

What the heck is going on here? Is this apple ?

anybody tried a RESTORE with the ORIGINAL t-mobile/orange sim card.
when I asked for unlocked I was told to use original sim card with every update untill phone was activated again by iTunes.

those with non activated updates, try restore again but this time with original sim, hope this works. I'm still at 1.1.2 with my legally french unlocked one but after reading these painfull messages I'll see what comes next first...

I'm sorry you have problems with your iPhone but I think you should get your facts straight. If you bought it in Germany you had your iPhone for about 2 months and not 4 months. It went on sale on Nov 9 and the unlock version at Nov. 12. - 21.

I think it's bad style from Apple to lock unlocked phones. But hopefully it's just a small mistake. <Edited by Moderator>

you've got it wrong, t-mobilde doenst give any sim information to apple, but IMEI and serial number only.

the base of the unlock procedure is the same (iTunes) as in france, and there they told me to keep my orange sim and to use it with every update.

after the update iPhone locks up again, so it needs to get activated, and this can be done with a supported sim, so that's why you neen to use - in your case - a T-mobile germany sim card.

if you don't have one, try a restore without sim card perhaps this helps and brings some new information 🙂

Hi again,

this might be the procedure in france, but they don't give a t-mobile card with the phone. You are right, you are given the imei number and the serial to t-online which hand it over to apple.

But it did activate with my Luxembourgish sim card the first time, so it should work okay for the second activation. I guess they link the imsi with the imei or whatever.

apparantly security on the new firmware got a bit tighter.
since both unlocks take place with iTunes I can't imagine them being different...

so this leaves us with the question of which operater is right.

maybe you could try doing a restore again but this time without sim card in tray and report back?

actually I would like to know if french phones are unlockable when using the orange (mobicarte) sim to perform the update...
