Movie rentals from the iTunes store

Hi everyone,

I just downloaded the latest version of iTunes after hearing about movie rentals from the iTunes store. After the install (which installed cleanly), I went to the movie section and do not see an option to rent any movies.

Am I missing something? Is there a different place or section that I need to be in to rent movies?
Has anyone else noticed this?

Please let me know.

Yes, I am also wondering about this. I thought movie rental was available immediately. It even says so on Apple web site in the iPhone demo. What gives?

same for me - no button to rent even though I have 7.6 installed and quicktime 7.4 installed (both had to download and install today)

Don, I'm in the same boat. Downloaded iTunes 7.6 from Apple.com/itunes/downloads (definitely 7.6 for Mac) and don't see a Rentals option.

Have yet to check from my iPhone (which is now 1.1.3) as I don't have access to an open wifi connection from where I work.

Thanks everyone, for writing.

Sorry to see that this is happening all over (but it's nice to also know that I am not alone!).

I just checked my downloaded iTunes version, it's 7.6 (29) for Mac. I used the Software Update feature rather than going directly to iTunes. I see that it doesn't make a difference though.

Hopefully, this will be fixed soon.

It was most certainly advertised that AppleTV was just one way of renting movies -- but you can also do it through iTunes and play them on your computer, iPhone, or iPod. I suspect the iTunes Store just has not been updated yet, and will be any time. But that's just a guess.

I have a feeling we are going to be forced to rent only from Apple TV as once you have rented a movie from iTunes it will appear on your computer HD some where and you can keep it for ever.

I don't think it's just limited to Apple TV. The ads say you can watch them on your iPod, iPod Touch, or iPhone

I think you are correct. iPods and iPhone should also work as you cannot get to files easily on these devices. They can put the times into iPods and iPhone to auto delete in 30 days or 24 hours after you first watch them.

I don't think that movie rentals are available yet on iTunes or Apple TV. Note the "Movie Rentals, Coming Soon" on the blue circle next to the tv at http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=br owse&mco=7B723644&node=home/shopipod/family/appletv
and rentals will be available on iTunes, it says it on the new features list

I wasn't for Apple TV before but now it might be worth it.
I want the rental option in iTUNES but they must have messed something up.

I guess I just don't understand what larger hard drives on the Apple TV are for. I'm missing something.

I think this refers to rentals from Apple TV, which are expected with the forthcoming Apple TV update in a couple of weeks. The Apple website states that movie rentals are available "from today", so it must be that they haven't enabled it yet for some reason.

Hmmm, I see that now. I didn't look there before, thanks for the tip.

Steve did say it was now available though, didn't he? I'll have to watch the presentation and see exactly what he said.

I guess we need to just be patient! 😉
