My iPhone won't "restore." (stupid 1.1.3 update)

I downloaded the update and it said the download was successful, but during the installation process I received a message saying the install wasn't successful and an error had occurred. So I un-plugged my iPhone from the computer, closed iTunes and then plugged my iPhone back into the computer and opened iTunes again. I was then told that I had to "restore" my iPhone, so I clicked on "restore" and it told me that "the iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred. (1604)" I've tried it several times and I keep getting the same error message over and over again! And now my iPhone keeps going from a blank screen, to the screen with the silver Apple logo in the middle to the screen with the picture of the plug pointing towards the iTunes symbol...what is going on? Is my iPhone fried or what? I don't know what to do, but this always seems to happen whenever I try to install new updates, ugh! Can anyone please help me solve this problem so I can get my iPhone working again? Thanks!

Thanks, but unfortunately...none of those worked...this is really frustrating! But I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who had problems with the new update today. Apple must be pulling their hair out right now due to all the thousands of complaints, LOL! I hope to God they have a solution (and a simple one to boot) for all of us so we don't have to take our iPhones back or send them in for repair.

OK, I had the very same problem. My iPhone got iFried and wouldn't restore.
fortunately the doc did come in handy. For me none of the solutions listed in this page worked

except for the last one where you try restoring the iPhone on a different machine. I had a Vista Home Prof box. I installed iTunes on that machine and connected up my ipod and everything worked fine and I was now on 1.1.3 . I connected the iPhone to the original machine I was having problems on (a toshiba running xp pro) and it restored my data.

If you are stuck and have tried everthing, I suggest you start on a clean machine reinstall iTunes and connect the iPhone for updating. If everything goes well, you can get the data back from the original machine...

Hope this helps..

i had the same problem, but then realised that i downloaded and installed itunes 7.6 at the same time and didn't restart my computer afterwards! I restarted the computer and update went through first time! But i have to say, not worth it! I had a personal wallpaper on my home screen, which i lost! Also, i only updated for the movie rental feature, only to find that it is a feature for America only! Not happy, will this ever be released in the u.k? I paid for my iPhone and service, just like everyone else! I want the same features!!!
