1.1.3 killed bluetooth

I updated to 1.1.3 today and now my apple bluetooth headset will not work.
I have restarted and restored but with no luck. When I try to turn bluetooth on in my iphone all I get is a spinning beach ball.
Anyone else have this problem?

I got mine to work with the help of apple phone support. (thanks guys!) Try this:

1. Remove phone and headset from dock
2. Turn off headset and iPhone
3. Power up iPhone
4. In Settings->General->Bluetooth unpair your headset(s)
5. Turn off Bluetooth
6. Press the home button to return to the main screen
7. Press and hold the home button and the lock button until you get the apple logo then release (it may prompt for power off, blank the screen etc, keep holding)
8. While your phone is restarting, power up the bluetooth headset
9. Hold the button on the bluetooth headset for about 10 seconds until you hear 5 rapid beeps
10. On iPhone, return to the Settings->General->Bluetooth and turn on bluetooth
11. Wait for you headset to appear in the list
12. Click on it, then enter the PIN 0000

After that it should be paired. Hope this helps.

Good God - so you are telling me, that this is the procedure connect a headset to the iphone??
I just wanted to get me a headset, but this seems to be some serious issue to rather use my old phone again, then getting me a headset for my iphone.
I called the support-hotline as well, and they told me, things would be more compatible with 1.1.3 😟

Sounds not very professional in my eyes - sorry apple, but that´s a no-go!

O!

I just want to update as I fixed my problem this morning and I hope this helps someone else. I went to settings>general>reset and I "reset all settings". This worked. Bluetooth is back to normal.
When I restored my phone last night and plugged it back into itunes it loaded all my stuff back on it from the back up that itunes makes of the phone. The bum setting for bluetooth must have been stuck in the back up somewhere and it was sent back to my phone.
Hope this helps

OK... had exact same problem w/ iPhone and Garmin 760.. 1.1.3 update rendered bluetooth connection between them sporadic... essentially useless.

So.... connect iPhone to computer, then hit Restore in iTunes pane, and choose "set up as new iPhone" when prompted. You can name the phone the same as you did before or not, doesn't matter. After all is restored and info is synched back on the iPhone, pair again with bluetooth device... should work without dropped connection. Hope it works as well for you as it did for me.

I did read that the latest version kills bluetooth to Garmin Nuvi (660 is what I have) and I still did it and now face the same fate-sporadic bluetooth connction and mostly dropped. When I called Apple support they did not even know what a Garmin Device is about (it is a GPS with bluetooth speaker phone) and kept telling me to reboot or restore both devices, which I did to no avail - if only the reboot magically solves every problem, wouldn't that be great? So far, I see no official response from Apple as to what they are doing to fix this issue as it is not a Garmin issue. Does anyone know what can be done as I rebooted and restored both devices and I still can't get a successful pairing of the iPhone and Garmin 660? Even if they are connected I get the error message "Phone Disconnected" every 15 seconds from the Garmin GPS device when I try to use it. Please HELP! Apple support on this issue ***** big time.

Not sure this will help you, but it fixed my iphone and garmin c580 issue.

I had tried the reset all settings on iphone and it didn't work for me either.
I figured it out finally last night. You do hit restore(in itunes) with your iphone connected, but the option to select new iphone isn't until after you have restored you phone and then it pops up. Well luckly I had 2 computers set up for sync on my iphone, but only one sync all my info. I restored on the computer that was authorized, but didn't have all my info 1st and when it pop up new iphone selected it. Then I pluged my iphone into the 2nd computer that had all my info and sync, Yeah!!!! all my music, pictures, contacts ringtones, etc... sync to my restored phone. The only thing that didn't sync was email settings and sms messages and a few options settings. I had put all my email settings on a word doc on my computer before the restore and glad I did. My bluetooth works perfect with my Garmin C580, after I unpaired them and paired them again. Yes and all my iphone contacts (phone book)shows up again, no disconnect and I was using it as a handsfree for over an hour this morning. The battery life even seems to have improved now. I realize not eveyone has 2 computers to sync with, but from other post I have read, by doing the backup before you restore if you sync your iphone after you have set up new iphone you should be able to sync again to itunes and have the same result. Hope this makes sense. Good luck.

Updated: My iphone and handsfree (Garmin C580) device have been working great since last night and all day with no issues and battery life has improved since I restored my iphone.

Thanks for the tip but I cannot do this way and I truly wish that Apple and Garmin worked out this issue so that the customers are not stranded like this. If neither Garmin nor Apple fixes this issue, I might change one of these devices. What Iam not able to understand is that Apple is not even acknowledging that this issue exists even though many have already experienced this problem.

After updating to 1.1.3 my Jawbone headset began disconnecting on it's own.

This had never happened before with the 3 different bluetooth headsets I've gone through.

1. Jabra BT 250v (or somthing)
2. Apple Bluetooth
3. Jawbone (currently using)

I replied to this because I read a few blog's that said more than a few people were having bluetooth issues.

FYI

This is a user to user help forum only so no one here knows what Apple has planned for future updates nor why they didn't include and haven't added support for this yet or if they ever will. If someone here is privileged to such information, they aren't allowed to say and Apple doesn't release such information ahead of time if they are planning on implementing this feature.

I found a solution that seems to work for me (tentatively, haven't road tested this but works while I'm sitting here in the office): http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2008/01/17/fix-for-iphone-113-bluetooth-problems/

"Toggle Airplane mode Turn Bluetooth off, then navigate to Settings, then slide Airplane Mode to On, wait a few seconds, then slide it back to Off. It seems that discontinuing and restarting the EDGE and WiFi components in the iPhone can restore connectivity.

iPhone Atlas reader Brian Dose, who experienced success with this workaround, writes:

“The restore option did not work for me when I tried it, however I found a way that worked for me that did not involve restoring at all. I turned the Bluetooth off. Then I went and put my Iphone into airplane mode. I then went back and reactivated the bluetooth. After picking re-enable, the bluetooth worked just fine and I didn’t have to do a restore. Hope this works for others as well.”
