"Cannot Connect Usine SSL"

I got the above error when trying to add my gmail account with the new $20 upgrade mail app.

I have checked my settings in my gmail account and they have imap and pop enabled.

Has anyone else gotten this error? Any fixes?

Thanks

I received the same error...did it give you an option to skip SSL?

If not go into your settings menu, click on 'Mail' then click on the account you created. Once in there, turn SSL off in the incoming and outgoing servers.

Hope that helps 🙂

I hear ya, I did the same.

Why don't you delete that account and try it again...I just did a test and it is working fine on mine. I know that does not help you though.

Not to point out the obvious, however, when setting up the acct on your touch you did select gmail right? Or did you select POP? If you select gmail it just asks for your name, e mail, and password.

Thanks Peter,

I was signed into gmail on Safari, but it didn't work once I signed out.

It did however get me thinking. I have a BlackBerry with my gmail account linked to it via imap. I wonder if there is a limit on the number of devices one can have attached to your gmail account.

I am a novice and have no idea how the technology works, but I wonder if that can be it. Anyone have any ideas? I really wanted to use the new mail app and now I am going to go to bed frustrated!!

I would assume so since the error I received "Cannot Connect Using SSL" mentions it.

I guess I just have bad luck since no one else seems to be having the same issue. Anyone who has seems to have been able to fix it. That's why I wonder if it has to do with my BlackBerry configured to receive my gmail.

Anymore ideas?

Thanks

"Cannot Connect Using SSL" could also mean that it cannot do any SSL at all. Since I am expecting to use many open/public WLANs the use of SSL is really a must.

You could try creating a new Gmail account just for testing purposes. That should not interfere with any existing account or configuration. Otherwise, disable Gmail on the BB for a few hours and then try connecting again with the Touch. If the IMAP server is accessed from distinctly different IP address for the same account at the same time it may get confused (shouldn't, but you never know).
