iPhone stuck in "headphones" mode

Earlier I accidentally grabbed my iPod headphones instead of my iPhone headphones and I think I may have jammed them in there too far. Because now I can't hear any of the keyboard clicks or sounds and when I receive a text message there's no sound either. And when I receive a call it won't allow me to hear the person on the other line unless I put my headphones in or use the speaker function. And when I turn the ringer volume up/down it says "headphones" in parentheses as if it's been set to "headphones" mode or something! Is it possible that I jammed them in so far that my iPhone thinks my headphones are still plugged in? Did I just totally ruin my iPhone? What do I do? Anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks!

I tried everything too. The freezer thing worked for about 2 hours. I then made an appointment with the genius bar. They did a diagnostic check said moisture was the problem. Since I was still in warranty the give me another phone and synced it using the cloud. Everything fell in place even the folders remained in alphabetic order. I think may one program was missing which I will recover with my next app sync to the computer.

Hope This Helps....

I noticed some moisture when I tried the rapid headphone plug/unplug trick, so I then proceeded to use a hair dryer and a q-tip w/ most of the cotton removed. That didn't work, but when I pressed and held the volume + the reading went from "ringer (headphones)" to "ringer". Problem solved. Not sure why. My guess is it was some sort of a hardware hiccup. I was even able to recreate the glitch by inserting a pair of headphones, playing w/ the volume, and unplugging the phones. Playing with the volume after unplugging read "ringer (headphones)" until I did the press and hold the + trick. Let me know if this helps any of you.

I experienced the same issue today. I tried the tips listed throughout this thread and had no luck. While on hold with 1-800-MY-IPHON, I inserted and removed the earphones and my phone reset itself to non-headphone mode. Perhaps another solution is to remove the earphones during a phone call? Everything seems to be working fine now. Hope this helps someone else!

A really simple fix for all those stuck in headphones mode.

I haven't read all the posts in this forum but the ones I did simply didn't help me, so I had a play and found the solution!

1) Put in your iPhone headphones.

2) Begin playing a travk in the iPod section, your should hear it playing through the headphones.

3) Turn your phone off whilst the track is playing.

4) After your phone is completely switched off, remove the headphones and turn back on your phone.

5) Your phone is back in ringer mode!

Or should be, hope this helps.

OMG!

Okay, so I've tried everything anyone posted on this thread and nothing seemed to work.

(tried pluging/unpluging the headphones at least 60 times, tried the Q-tip trick...nothing!)

I took my girlfriend's hair blowdryer, set it to cool and to max...

Presto!!! I can now hear music, I can also hear myself talking when I tried calling myself!

Hey giys i tried EVERYTHING you guys mentioned but none of them work. Sadly the simplest thing fixed it for me. If youve ever noticed that volume levels change based on if the headphones are plugged in or not (ex. - if the headphones are plugged in you could have it set at half volume, but unplugged, you could have it set to max). What i did was bring up the ipod and play music with the headphones plugged in. I changed the volume level some and unplugged the headphones (the volume level went to a different setting because it still recognizes the different volume levels, its just STUCK in headphone mode), and changed the volume level again. The music stopped playing just like when you unplug headphones. I hit the play button and it was fixed. Sorry for the length, i just wanted to give all the steps

Hi Guys,

I was having the same issue from last few days. But today it got worst as it was happening frequently. I am still not figure out the issue that why it is happening. As i tried the following.

(1) Putting the headphone many times

(2) Put in the cold place

(3) Use hair dryer

(4) Clean the phone headphone socket

Nothing worked for me.

I figured out that there are only two reason it happens.

(1) my car stereo has a bluetooth and everytime i connect to that it happens

(2) I am using a china made car charger

Anyways my problem sorted out when i put the phone on the charger and take out the charger pin 3 - 4 times and suddenly i hear the noise of the charger getting connected.

So try this it may works for you.

I bought a phone and got myself a humidity detector!

In my humble opinion, this exasperating problem is not effected by temperature, but is related to humidity.

Drying the phone, by blowing air in or out, cooling it, heating it, etc, alters the humidity inside the phone. The dryer it is, the more likely it is to work correctly.

My phone was working fine yesterday - a warm sunny day of low humidity - yet right on cue, as the clouds rolled in over my mountain home this morning, the phone switched to headphone mode. A visit to a nearby airconditioned store, and it was back in ringer mode.

I plan on buying some packs of Silica Gel Dessicant crystals and storing my phone with them overnight as a tempory measure to solve the problem but Apple desperately need to make a software change to decrease the sensitivity they have programmed into their headphone socket detection subroutine.

The slightest bit of moisture sets it off into headphone heaven.

Hopefully, the next software update..........
