Q: iPhone stuck in "headphones" mode

Earlier I accidentally grabbed my iPod headphones instead of my iPhone headphones and I think I may have jammed them in there too far. Because now I can't hear any of the keyboard clicks or sounds and when I receive a text message there's no sound either. And when I receive a call it won't allow me to hear the person on the other line unless I put my headphones in or use the speaker function. And when I turn the ringer volume up/down it says "headphones" in parentheses as if it's been set to "headphones" mode or something! Is it possible that I jammed them in so far that my iPhone thinks my headphones are still plugged in? Did I just totally ruin my iPhone? What do I do? Anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks!

In case anyone is sucking on their iPhone to no avail, none of that worked for me when my daughter brought me her iPhone with the same problem. I tried plugging and unplugging, sucking and blowing on the port, but nothing changed. At a loss, I tried what should normally be the first step in troubleshooting, I rebooted the phone, and it returned to normal audio function! So before you turn blue (or beet red) in the face trying to clear a physical obstruction in the headphone port, try rebooting the sucker!

Come now, you don't really think that isn't the first thing someone would try do ya?

Come now, you really don't have anything better to do than troll the support boards and mock people for simply stating what worked and did not work for them? If that bothers you, you should probably stay off of tech support boards.

if you're reading this and you're not sure if it applies to you toggle the "slient" switch on and off, if a grey box pops up saying "headphones" "silent" and you ain't got no headphones plugged in, you're in the right place.

I tried all the solutions on here and was envisioning hellish trip to an Apple Store to meet with a droning hipster with fashionable black frames and maybe a top knot. Luckily the solution was to get a cue tip and work the cotton off with your fingernail, work the end into the headphone port and toggle the silent switch until it says "ringer". Continue life

Had some issue on iphone 6 played with the heaphone jack 50 times like everyone else, powered down ,looked through settings and nothing fixed even went out to garage and use air compressor to blow into headphone jack hole and still nothing so if all this still doesnt help then try something silly. Did this after reading someone elses post ,this fixed their issue buy doing this .Just suck hard as you can on the headphone hole and blow too not sure which helped but after doing this for 10 seconds pressed volume button and tada **** things back to normal. hope helps good luck

Not sure if the headphones trick worked or not, but I dropped my phone in the sink full of water. Pulled it out immediately and dried it off. Tried several times to do the headphone trick and it wasn't working. Tried it once more and after unplugging the headphones it still didn't work. So I pressed on the home button to talk to Siri without headphones in and the voila! It worked. Guess Siri realized I wasnt talking to her through a headphones mic.

I Dropped my phone in the snow and I think some moisture got into my headphone jack, so I read about it and tried alarms, headphone input, resetting  nothing worked and i also read that if moisture was involved then waiting over night it may evaporate. So, I sped up the process by showering and closing the door and not turning on the exhaust fan while my phone was  the bathroom with me and as soon as I got out, it was back to normal and the ringer volume was activated again! Thanks for all the feedback. Thought I'd lend a helping hand with what helped me. Good luck!

Try turning on then off the "do not disturb' function on your phone.

Same thing happened to me. I dropped my phone in the snow while I was shoveling. Went through the forum and did all the suggestions but nothing worked. So I got a q-tip and took off all the cotton on one end and poked it into the earphone jack and wiggled it around. Did it twice just to make sure and my phone is working properly. I think the snow melted in there and the water corroded the pins. Hope this helps someone!
