Q: iPhone stuck in "headphones" mode

Earlier I accidentally grabbed my iPod headphones instead of my iPhone headphones and I think I may have jammed them in there too far. Because now I can't hear any of the keyboard clicks or sounds and when I receive a text message there's no sound either. And when I receive a call it won't allow me to hear the person on the other line unless I put my headphones in or use the speaker function. And when I turn the ringer volume up/down it says "headphones" in parentheses as if it's been set to "headphones" mode or something! Is it possible that I jammed them in so far that my iPhone thinks my headphones are still plugged in? Did I just totally ruin my iPhone? What do I do? Anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks!

I Also had this proble and pluging in and out did not work. So what you have to do if that wont work is go to settings\sound then change the sound changing bar a couple of times. make sure to do it without your headphones pluged in. This should start to produce sound from your speakers then go to music or any other kind of media with sound and your speakers should be working just fine. This may not work if you have something like lint stuck in jack. if this does not work try unpluging  and repluging your headhones a number of times as stated before In other threads.

I tried almost everything I've seen in each post in this thread except for using the vacuum and putting my iPhone 6 in the freezer for 10 minutes. None of them worked. I charged my phone and left it alone for about an hour, and all of a sudden, it's no longer in headphones mode! I'm not sure what happened, but sometimes time helps!

The tip off the jack off my headphones had broken and gotten stuck down in the audio jack hole. Wow - hard to get out but I plugged the old jack back in the levered the jack sideways. It got enough grip to pull the tip out. But this was extremely difficult to diagnose. The clue was to look at the jack - looked a little strange with the tip missing but his'd be easy to miss.

The headphones that broke was Ausdom. Don't buy those I guess. Going to buy a new jack and rewire.

@Apple - come on, there is an easy software override - just put a line of code that allows users to go to speakers even if the headphones are plugged in. (PLEASE). You would save 1000's of peoples frustrations - look how big this thread is.

Sucking the headphone jack. Sounds silly, but tried everything from cleaning the jack, turning phone off and on, and restarting the settings.  It really does work!

This idea worked for me. I tried everything else first but after reading this idea I put it into Airplane mode and after 30 seconds I tried the volume buttons on the side and instead of adjusting the Headphone volume it was adjusting the Ringer volume. I felt like I'd won a few hundred dollars. Well I thought I'd mention how I g my phone going again. Thanks to zmoish for the idea and relieving me of my panic.

So after trying everything I read from restarting, resetting, unplugging, blow drying, cleaning with a q-tip… still nothing worked. I read a post where someone simply mentioned “iPod". I had recently had my iPhone plugged into my car to listed to music. I had unplugged my phone without actually “exiting" the iPhone mode back to the radio. I went back to my car, plugged back in and properly exited the iPod/music. WORKED… whew
