Just downloaded Firmware Version 1.1. The minor issues I had (mainly sorting of Coverflow) remain... The cover-flow images seem a bit larger, but I might just be paranoid.
Anybody else notice something different???
MacBook,
Mac OS X (10.4.10),
M-Audio FW410 iPod Classic 160 GB
It's early days, but TV Shows sort logic appears to have been repaired. Shows sorting on Season/Episode. New Movies sectlon called Rentals which I guess explains itself. Not spotted anything else as yet.
It required me to restore the ipod, which is sort of a bummer, since it's taking so long to transfer a 100gb library anew - but the process was long overdue anyway. As soon as it finishes (in about 6h our so), I'll know my verdict on 1.1.
What's new is my iPod 60G classic bricked after applying the update. Off to the apple store today. It never restarted fully after getting the 'update successful' message. Unit won't reset and is completely unresonsive to anything. When plugged inot iTunes it said 'cannot recognize iPod at this time'.
I just installed the update, it works fine. Clickwheel is still a bit unresponsive but not as jumpy as before like when adjusting volume. Cover flow loads nearly instantaneous, not sure if battery drain problem is fixed yet havn't had chance to play it all day as I usually do. Also I havn't encountered the bug I get with coverflow that makes it not show anything but titles or the wierd transition I usually get. Volume seems a bit louder might just be me though. In the settings the clicker has been changed from "Both" or "Off" to "On or "Off", makes no sense you still can't play just through iPod. I think they changed the sound effect for it though. Search funtion is improved showing different icons for the type of media, album, song etc. Don't know if it's new but theres a ToDo section in the calendar where you can sync notes. Rentals section added to the videos page. TV out now has "Off" "Ask" "On" options along with subtitles, captions and alternate audio. Photo thumbnails load a lot faster than before. When browsing songs it now shows the artist name underneath (Not sure if it was there before.) Can't find anything else at the moment, will post if I find anything else.
The difference in the search is that it shows different icons for the type of file. If it's a song it shows a musical note. If it's an album it shows a note on a cover. If it's an artist it shows a singer with a microphone shadow.
The search function has indeed improved. But I guess that's all regarding the changes in the 'Music' section. Coverflow images have not grown and I still find everybody's greatest hits under the cover of Arrested Development's greatest 😟.
As for the sound itself, I didn't notice something different. The line output still doesn't match the level of my cd-player, but has a good deep bass. It's not as deep as when I connect the headphones directly to the iPod, but then again, it might always have been like that.
Obviously, the focus of this update concerned other sections of the iPod, but unfortunately I don't use them enough to notice any difference...
The big question is....has anyone tried to use it with a 3rd party video player, i.e., the Motorola iFlip, sonic's v55, Philips DVC, etc. to see if the issues created by 1.0.3 still exist.
just realized that i could not switch off the ipod completely. there is still a quiet sound in the earphones. anybody else withe this pheneomen?
also there is a ugly sound while unplugging the earphone jack out of the switches off ipod!
