Question

Moto V551 still "crippled" in iSync v2, why?

The "Address Book" option is still greyed out when I pair my Motorola V551 phone with my Mac over Bluetooth.

Why is it that (admittedly, unusably buggy) shareware such as Blue Phone Elite can accomplish what Mac OS X can't?

It's almost enough to make me downgrade to a Sony Ericsson T637 phone. (Well, this and Motorola's numerous quality and usability problems.)

Address Book option has nothing to do with iSync.

Likely the "Use with Address Book" option built-in in Mac OS X relies on standards that motorola phone might not correctly (or insufficiently) respects and since that part of the OS is likely to be generic, it considers it can't support that feature with that phone.

Then how does the aforementioned Blue Phone Elite shareware accomplish the functionality that should be inherent in Address Book?

I've found that even though the address book option is grayed out in the Bluetooth Assistant, if I open iSync and put the phone into Bluetooth "discoverable mode," it will appear as a device in iSync and as an available option if I rerun the BT Assistant.

Address Book checkbox in BT assistant is completely de-correlated from iSync support. That checkbox is for the SMS/Call support control from Address Book.
