Image sequence problem

Hi-
I'm having trouble creating an image sequence in QT Pro 7.4. I have a folder containing a PNG sequence (about 340 PNGs) When I Open Image Sequence... and choose the first image, the Quicktime that is created is just the first image. When I save as a self-contained movie, it is still just the first image.

Another odd thing is the frame rate drop-down (in the import dialog) only contains 29.97fps. However, if I select 29.97 and hit "2" on the keyboard, I can access other frame rates, but the drop down only contains 29.97.

Thanks for any help.

Hello Wynn

Since upgrading to version 7.4, I have had the same problem. Some young lady in India is currently trying to help me on the phone... without luck. My installed, deinstalled and reinstalled version plays my *.mov files as well as those from others.

But, when trying to create from a series of photos, it imports the first file.

Also, to help you out... the fps rate can be changed at the series-importer-window. For some reason, the programers narrowed the selection box. Take a close look at the two skinny bars at the right of the fps selection. By accident, I noticed that you can select the top or bottom and change the option. Try it!

Good luck...

Update, I just got an American on the hotline phone and he is making an effort to help me! Outstanding. Will post a fix here, if there is one!

Update:
Just spent hours on the phone looking for some sort of support on this issue. Most of the calls I made landed in India. The best help I got was from the US.

Basically, they say that, "... if your Quicktime (pro or not) plays our sample movies, then it is working."

Well, I said, some of the people are trying to creat *.mov files... not just play them... that is why we purchased the Pro version.

Still didn't work. According to the help desk and numerous persons that I talked to and got disconnected from, all Quicktime help is online in the form of FAQ and this forum.

So... if anyone dealing with Quicktime programming, PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM ASAP!!

I have three .mov files to make and my customer will not be happy when I cannot deliver in the morning. Again, just in case someone is looking for key words...

Who knows... might help out :~)

Oh well, guess I'll have one disappointed customer. And I may have to look for another converter.

Good luck to all

I have the same problem with QT 7.4. I've tried it out on two different computers (Vista32 and Vista64) but neither work. It's extremely frustrating becuase this is the only reason I bought QT Pro.

Even more frustrating is that I canot see any way of reporting the software bug to Apple via an online form or email. I'm not familar with how they do things so is this forum monitored for error reports or do they rely on peope phoning them?

Well, well... as I read here on the forum, there is still not a fix for the 7.4 upgrade problem. My customers are extremely unhappy and Apple, respectively QuickTime is making a bad name for themselves.

I did the revert back to 7.3 and used my registration as before, no problem. In the mean time, I received my power computer which has dual boot (XP Prof and Vista Ultimate). I first installed 7.4 to see if the new computer made a difference... no go. Same crap. Loaded the first frame and nothing behind it in the directory (despite over a thousand photos in that directory with consecutive names)... in both OS versions :~(

Uninstalled 7.4 and installed 7.3.x. The Vista version works like a charm. The XP Prof version loads all the photos. Then when going to change the properties of the export, the program crashes and cuts out. Tried reinstalling... without luck. QT 7.3.x crashes when I try to change the properties of the exporting movie.

Any tips welcomed.

***************************************************
QuickTime Image Sequence Load Problem
Workaround for
QuickTime 7.4 and 7.4.1 on Windows XP.
***************************************************

If any file or folder names are longer than 8 characters, QuickTime 7.4 and 7.4.1 will fail to load image sequences. Also, image sequences will fail load if there are spaces in either the file or the folder names.

Example:

This sequence will load:

c:\preview\seqs\shot\shot0001.png
c:\preview\seqs\shot\shot0002.png
c:\preview\seqs\shot\shot0003.png
c:\preview\seqs\shot\shot0004.png

---
Any sequences that contain the following will fail:

c:\preview\seqs\my shot\shot0001.png (space in the folder name)

c:\preview\seqs\mywideshot\shot0001.png (folder name too long)

c:\preview\seqs\shot\shot 0001.png (space in file name)

c:\preview\seqs\shot\wideangle0001.png (file name too long)

File format is not a factor: png, bmp, psd.

This was tested on two systems. One system has QuickTime 7.4 the other has 7.4.1.

Cheers,

KHC

Sorry, I have 7.4 and I already tried eliminating spaces and shortening filenames before I read this series of posts. Unfortunately it still only loaded the first image. My file names are "r001..r00x". They don't get much shorter than that.

Clearly Apple's QA was out to lunch when they released 7.4.

I guess I'm going to have to do like everyone else and downgrade. I wish Apple would provide support for the product I just paid to upgrade to!

Hi all,

[1] I can confirm the filename/path length and space workaround, thanks!

[2] Changing the frame rate: the menu is there, but it is *very small and hidden*! Click on the down arrow and another line restating the 29... framerate appears. On the right side, there are two very small bars, each half a line hight. This is the scroll bar(sic!) of the select list, click on it, and it'll make you happy.

Obviously a bug. Hey guys at Apple, its all said. I just upgraded to 7.4.1 - not fixed.

Have a wonderful day!

Hi, another work around (thanks for all of your help so far).

- Open Image Sequence
- Select first file
- Set frame rate by selecting the box and using the arrow keys
- * Only one image will be selected so:
- highlight the rest of the images that you wish to be in the sequence
- Drag those images to the video and they will be added.

Best.
