I have been using my iPhone with a Garmin nuvi 680. So far it has worked very well as a hands-free speaker, that is untill last night when I upgraded to 1.1.3. Since the upgrade my Bluetooth connection to the nuvi is shot. I get an initial connection, but every minute or two it warns me that my phone has been disconnected. You can imagine that this gets quite old after a dozen or so warnings.
I have unpaired my iPhone and paired it again to no avail. I have reset the iPhone and I will try again. What else should I try?
MacPro,
Mac OS X (10.5.1),
6GB RAM, 4 x 250 GB HD, Apple Extreme
Unfortunately I don't have a copy of 1.1.2 around and I wouldn't trust one that didn't come from Apple directly.
I took my iPhone, the headset and my Nuvi to an Apple Genius last Sunday. I explained my situation. He said that he hadn't heard anything about problems with 1.1.3 and Bluetooth. He didn't address the problems with the Nuvi at all.
Since I last posted, my Jabra J10x died. I was using it with my iPhone on a tech call, and I wore the battery down. I had never had run out the batteries on my J10X before. I tried to recharge it but it would not charge anymore, it was dead. I took out my Apple Bluetooth Headset which I had retired soon after purchasing it. It sat in a drawer for the past four or five months. Since I have begun to use it again, I have noticed that it doesn't hold a charge like it used to. It now gets discharged after a few hours of standby. If I use it to talk, it may last four hours or so. I also have noticed a bit of a difficulty getting the iPhone to recognize it.
I told all this to the Mac Genius. He is going to replace my Apple headset. If that doesn't fix the issue, we'll go on from there. He doesn't think that 1.1.3 has any Bluetooth problems. I think that perhaps the 1.1.3 update may somehow be running down the battery on Bluetooth devices. It seems too much of a coincidence that both my Jabra and my Apple headsets developed battery charge problems after the 1.1.3 update.
The moral of this story is that all of us who are having Bluetooth issues have to call Apple. If they don't hear from us directly, this issue will not appear on their radar. Remember that the squeaky wheel gets the oil. I suggest we start squeaking.
Hate to ask the dumb question, but what are the steps for backing my IPhone to 1.1.2 using this file? I too have been having problems (actually just one BIG problem) with the IPhone and my Garmin 680 BT connection...
I believe you'll find that that fix, like all the others i've encountered so far, is temporary. I'm not sure what re-breaks the fix, but before long your connection will be dropping again. That fix worked for me too...for a while.
I think the only permanent fix we're going to find will come from Apple.
Garmin is not going to do any firmware updates to fix this. So you either wait for 1.1.4 or go back to 1.1.2
Unless you want to spend your time driving playing the connect-disconnect game
I experienced the same problem with a Garmin nüvi 880. After lots of troubleshooting including upgrading my Garmin's Bluetooth drivers, unpairing/repairing, etc. to no avail, I restored my iPhone as new. After the restore Bluetooth worked for several days - then started connecting/disconnecting repeatedly again.
I've now found that if I turn my iPhone off within range of my Garmin (with the Garmin on), then turn my iPhone back on, the bluetooth connection stays active.
I also have the C550 with the same issue now. Also, the connection with my plantronics headseat is TERRIBLE now! I have to hold the phone no more than 1 foot from the headset or else the static is unbearable. Anyone else have an issue with their headsets after the update?
